It's probably my favorite album and movie. IIRC, Vangelis was unsure of the quality of what he had made, and refused to let it get released for ten years, so all you could find was an orchestral version, or get lucky with bootlegs. But like the movie, age only makes it clear how ahead of it's time it was. If I could only have two albums, I would take Blade Runner and U.F.Orb.

Cheers,

jason

Amen. Hah! You keep posting with all this stuff I grew up worshiping as a kid.

Here's some random albums that I think you should check out, based only on a couple of your recent threads

Peter Gabriel's soundtrack for the Last Temptation of Christ, "Passion"
Passengers (u2 And Brian Eno)

Yep. Completely unsolicited, but since you have been listening to some choice older cuts, I felt I would contribute some ideas.
Oh, and Bladerunner is tied with Alphaville for my favorite movie.

Blade runner soundtrack official version is not as good as the "Blade Runner Esper Edition" bootleg.

it's got all that missing stuff which Vangelis decided was not 'musical' enough to stand up on its own. He was wrong, the Esper edition is just fantastic. Search the Evil Net for it.

Love it... I watch it over and over and over and over and over....

My wife and I love to fall asleep listening to the soundtrack. Def will have to check out the Esper version.

Amen! and Hallelujah!

Bladerunner is my definitive favourite movie and much because of Vangelis.

Guess I have to check out that esper edition. Sounds exciting.

Man, that is such an insane compliment! If so many here feel this way, I feel like a dork for not being more familiar with the music apart from the film. I LOVE the movie, but guess I didn't catch and retain the excellence of soundtrack.

the funny thing about the esper edition is that it greatly benefits from the ambient sound effects of the film, rather than simply being 'music' there is a lot of extraneous noise which really makes it into something weird.
The sounds of people walking, washing of hands, breathing, 'air-conditioning units', 'spinners', 'rain', 'eye squeezing'
all these contribute to make some of the more ambient pieces into something more.

Some interesting stuff about Vangelis and the Nemo studio here

especially the bits about the "creative enviroment", I'd love a big metal horse in my studio :)
