set up your external instrument like so.. that should work
Holloway, mholloway wrote:whoa guys, I just checked out the images shown/discussed above (the NON e.i instrument ones), and that method is definitely *waaaaay* more complicated than using External Instrument. Don't be deceived by the name, it's not just for hardware. External Instrument is used to rewire Reason instruments easily, and also multi-output vst's like Kontakt -- just put one instance of the vst in a midi channel, then create new midi channels, drop E.I into them, and do the routing settings *from the EI controls*. Note: you will *not* need to change the In/Out settings on the new channels. E.I. takes care of all of that for you. Just choose where it's sending Midi To, and where it's receiving Audio From. The E.I. interface makes this very obvious. the only wildcard is the interface for setting up outputs in the multi-output VST. Like in Kontakt3, you just create new instruments and then route them to seperate channels in kontakt's mixer, e.g. 1, 2, 3 and on down the line. it sets up successive midi channels outmatically.
this is much, much simpler than the methods described/shown above! long live External Instrument!

edit: ok so as I wrote this bosonHavoc posted an image that sums up everything above sorry for redundancy.
OtherJesus wrote: I put the Proteus X2 on it's own track, and set it to multi-mode and I set up a piano on bus 1 and drum kit on bus 2.
Next I add 2 channels of External Insturments.
Then I select the first EI and go down to the routing target... the first MIDI TO I select the Proteus X (makes sense to me)
then the right under that select Proteus 1 (for midi/bus 1 and that makes sense)
Then in the Audio From, I click the drop down and it only shows me Proteus Bus 2-16.
It doesn't show me Bus 1.
What gives???
