correct, asshole.
By the nature of the monome comunity, these listings should be ignored, I know that the monome is a prized item, but people are buying them just to sell for profit, which is despicable. If I ever had to sell my 128 (it would never be through choice) I would not expect to gain a penny more than was spent on its original purchase.

theres nothing wrong with making a little profit on an item years down the road when it becomes a collectors item. a lot of people bought tb-303's back when they were only a few hundred bucks and now they sell them for $1500. the difference here is people that buy them with no intention of ever using them and then sell them days later at 100$ markup.

as far as selling it for what you paid, you'd be surprised how often these guys are actually guys who bout a used one at $2500 and then decided to sell it for what they paid.

but sure, sometimes they are just assholes.

I don't agree or disagree with this auction but I will say, the Monome creators have very noble ideals, however, in the real world, price is based on supply and demand.

Again - not saying I agree or disagree, but it's reality. People want Monomes but they are a pain in the ass to get.

"For what shall it profit a man, if he gain the whole world, and suffer the loss of his soul?"

I hope his guilt outlasts the time it takes him to spend the $1k profit. I'm glad my pride is worth more than that.

Ha!

I was with u Tone, except you live in $1000 per couch/month town.

:P

I do agree that there is kind of a fukt up elite-ness around the Monome, simply because they are almost impossible to get.

The creators even auction them from time to time for charity when supplies are low, but that still results in paying a gazillion bucks for a 128, etc...

Not judging you, just judging the town that ditched everyone who isn't amongst the top 2%, homeless, or willing to live on a couch for $800-$1000 a month.

When you think about it, housing in SF is a similar commodity to the 2nd hand Monome, but you only have to pay once for the Monome...

lol c'mon, that's not even realistic.

guess what else is true... EVERYONE is gay, we ALL surf and we eat Rice-a-Roni and sourdough bread for every meal, in the 15 minutes in between the daily earthquakes.
