Livid Ohm or APC40?

Post by lilbizbone » Mon Mar 09, 2009 12:51 pm

What is (in your opinion) better for performance in ableton live? PLEASE dont give me the "well its all personal choice" speech. Im asking what YOU prefer, and how YOU use it haha. Also, what about the CME Bitstream 3x?

Thanks for your opinions.

It's a bit difficult to compare like-for-like in use, as the APC isn't out yet.

I don't mean that sarcastically, I just mean that all you can really expect at this point is speculation.

I have an ohm and even though the apc isn't out yet I can say that the ohm doesn't even come close the apc.

For one thing the ohm is a "dumb" MIDI device - just CCs, no alternative MIDI routing unless you get some kind of MIDI routing app in the chain, no banks, what you see is what you get. Also no visual feedback on the pads or encoders. It's also more expensive.

The blue lights on the ohm are rather dazzling and almost distracting but that's about all the "wow" factor on it and until the apc came out it was one of the few controllers with a grid on it that isn't a monome or drum pad controller.

Also the grid is only 6X6.

In summary, go with the apc.
