Feedback when using external audio effect (with RME-card)

hello. I'm getting serious feedback when using th external audio effect. I believe everything is setup correctly in the RME mixer. I have just reinstalled XP on the laptop because I messed up something in the system 32 folder (lol) and before the reinstall, the external audio effect was working without this massive feedback. Can someone hold my hand, please? I can't figure it out 
The EFX500 is connected to inputs and outputs 7+8 on the RME Multiface 2. In the multiface mixer, the inputs are all the way down, the rest of the settings are in default state
