After reading the excellent interview with the mastering engineer I kept browsing the Monolake website and stumbled upon this:

"When we started working on Live, and finally showed a first Version in 2001, the big music software companies did not take us very serious. "A laptop on stage? You must be crazy!" or "This interface looks horrible!" were reactions we got often. However, we are now the most successful music software company out there, with an incredible number of customers all over the world, and our software massively changed the way electronic music is created and performed.

So is Ableton really numero uno? They totally should be - best sequencer by many miles.

I think this is Robert being justifiably proud of Ableton's outstanding achievements over that time period and in terms of live performance software, I would agree that Live is definitely #1.

We all know that in terms of studio based DAW software that Digidesign, Steinberg and Apple are the big players and up against that, Ableton are still a small company.
When you start to hear terms like 'industry standard Ableton Live' bandied around, then you know we truly made it.

Yes, so glad to be a Live user and devotee. Long live the Abes !!

It's entirely possible that they're #2 behind Digidesign, but I doubt what with the 40X cost of a full blown HD system and the total market share they have in the US that Ableton are pulling in as much, though overhead is extremely low compared.

it's quite possible, considering the size of their market. after all, it's doubtful many dj's buy digidesign.

vinyl is not dead, Ableton Live is not the most successful DAW.

like you, neither of these facts reflect my reality.

Digidesign is the number one pro editor that doesn't necesarrily translate into a lot of copies sold which is what we're talking about here. Anyway Robert Henke doesn't BS AFAIK so... it must be true.

Live is definitely the no. 1 second app people own, a lot of people stay with Logic, Cubase but have Live to do loop stuff.
Live is definitely no. 1 app with the Minimal DJ/producers probably the no. 1 app with people that take up producing from a DJ background...So are they numero UNO fo' real????

I'm surprised that this group of forum members who are typically such sticklers for proven facts and data when it comes to OT Political threads, to be such "fanboys"

How is "number one" the same is "most successful" ?

How is "most successful" defined in this article?

-Greatest annual growth per year?
-This year?
-Growth of what? Revenue / Sales / Market Share?
-Largest market share
-largest market share of new consumers?
-Gross Revenue?
-Net Revenue?
-EBITDA?
-Gross Unit Sales?

With so many variables, one can concede, that any company could make this claim.

Well if you're talking dollars and sense I would venture to bet that it's Garage Band. Of course for me personally, there's nothing out there that rivals Live. Session view baby!
