What are you going to build in M4L ?

Recently everytime I push Live's capabilities I find myself resigned to waiting for m4l for a lot of things. Keep meaning to write these down but I usually forget about them and move on.

Here are a few things on my to do list over the last few days, not sure if they'll be possible at this stage



Hacking the External Instrument plugin create custom instruments for all my hardware with all most used controls mapped in an Ableton GUI.

See can I pull text information from Live clips/tracks/transport for display on small 6" display that I would mount on top of the APC.

Create follow on clip presets, create a system of choosing different follow on clip presets for a group of clips accessable by MIDI

Port mlr as a native Live app and every other monome app I've enjoyed

Automatically disable all plugins in a rack that are not in use.

Try and set up a system of allowing preset changes of ableton devices by MIDI without racks

here's my list:

-browser midi controls,plus "load" buttons on each track in session view.
-pimp my remote sl 37 to control ableton totally mouse free
-automatically open a plugin window when selected,automatically close when selecting another plugin(like Euphonix mc mix does with logic studio)

don't know what else yet......

but surely to be continued....
IF i figured out how the hell i'm supposed to do all of this

edit:
-bezier-like automation curves modeled after some beautifully curve babe using my own dynamic female bodypart(minus the smell)convolution.
maybe i should work for focusrite.... :mrgreen: :mrgreen:

Crazy arpeggiators, filtered to only play specific keys from a generated stream of notes.

Sample Slicers built in to each channel, with X-Y control of loop points, incremented in beat divisions.

Jitter video window built in with video clips triggered from midi notes and processing effects using filtered audio streams as control.

Oh, it's gonna be unreal =D

Same here, I'm going to do the same thing I did with Reaktor. I'm gonna float around in my pool (with mojito in hand) and wait for the pale-skinned euro-geeks to develop the killer apps for me. 8)

This was one of the first things that I thought of, though I am worried about the statement that all midi/audio in will be handled by Live. Sounds like surround sound may still be an engineering debacle.

I hear you loud and clear. I have questions though:

1) Will there be a cost issue since we obviously both own each.

2) Will these devices be able to communicate dyamically with each other? I currently have freelance work slated for the future, and some of it is dependent on the range of intercommunication between one device and the other.

3) OSC. How will this be availalbe, and how will it be implemented. Live has the potential so much more than it already is, but there are some "seemingly-petty" details that seem to be keeping it back (cough, surround soud, ahem, Gack, bezier curves for automation.)

Scale Plug 2

Future: smart scale!

Say you use a scale of 5 note variations: they will follow each other numerically on the keyboard.
so on the first 12 keys it would be: 1,2,3,4,5,1,2,3,4,5,1,2, and so on.

Abletons scale plug work like this: 1,1,2,2,2,3,3,3,4,4,5,5, and so on.

So instead of having some keys with the same pitch notes side by side on the keyboard, they would be laid out numerically after the scale. A lot of people don't use keyboards but pads etc to trigger notes. This would be specially handy for those cases.

yes dude,

it gets better though. The first 50 people to donate will get a special autographed miniature with, wait for it, their face instead of Fonzies (if you are hideously disfigured please do not apply). All made in MFL naturally.

As another project I have also been thinking about a little something that I could knock up in around 7 days or so, allowing for a day of rest on the Sunday :)
