sometimes get a flood of cpu for no reason. The project will be running steady around 50% then go crazy 100%+ until I stop.

The first thing I do when it happens, I look what time it is. If it's a round hour, it's one of those @#$$%^^&@#%@#%! programs connecting to the Net to check for updates or whatever, in spite of all settings saying "DO NOT". I mercilessly nuke any such program I catch, I don't care what it is.

I'm not sure why some of you guys post Live 9 "tests" and discuss Live 9 in a Live 8 thread when there is a fine Live 9 Performance Test thread already.

Also many are not posting how many tracks you can have before crackling sets in and that make this kind of "test" quite useless. Not that this would be enough. The test prerequisites should be made more clear. With Live 10 on the horizon hopefully it's high time for new better performance testing.

Nope, you are suffering mostly because of CPU.
Your processor is earlier than i5 and i7 is recomended for most audio applications.
Looks like you have done best to speed up your computer (by upgrading SSD) and you've reached to its limits.

My advice: Buy a late 2012 i7 unibody. Its around 800$. You can put your SSD in optic drive as secondary HDD. Also you can upgrade ram to 16..
Beware, on models after unibody all the components glued so they are not upgradeble.
