Four physical cores, each one is seen as two logical cores by the OS (hyperthreading, like the good old P4s).

oh cool. didn't know that! I'm in the market to upgrade my PC.

but yes it is pointless to have 6 gig of ram if you are on Vista x86

@Gab

you have pretty much the same build as me. have you tried out Windows 7 ? it is amazing! there is a beta driver for the Fatil1y. runs solid!

Indeed... That processor is one of those quickpath buggers that do away with the old FSB bottleneck... Only a few mainborads support them and they aint cheap!!

I gave it an eye with the inital beta, now I'm waiting for the RC, which shall be released on May 5th. I have been using XP for so much time that I will be switching reluctantly, but I will eventually take the plunge to take advantage of SSDs (when they are cheaper - Win7 will be optimized to limit cell wearing) and more than 3.2GB of RAM.

Do you already want to upgrade your PC? With what you've got, you can easily wait for the Westmeres (32nm Nehalems) to be released - or buy some software instead to make good use of that powerful hardware :P

End of OT, my apologies, back to the performance reports

You know what .. you were right :!:

Apparently the project Zip file did not unpack the sample so I was running it without the Conga clap.

However with the test executed again CPU in Live scored 18%. In Windows, CPU still said 9%.

SWAN808 wrote: However - using Live 8.01 - Cannot play back 8 tracks without constant glitching. Need to increase buffer to over 1000. Then = 70%

Live 8 plays 6 tracks at 66%
Live 6 plays 6 tracks at 68%

Something strange going on here. Live 8 seems quite heavy with high track count and low buffer...
I have Live versions 6-8 on my black 2.4ghz 4g ram black macbook. Version 8 has the lowest cpu meter reading (around 58%) yet will not play back 8 tracks without glitching.

Versions 6 and 7 register about 68-70% but are able to play back 8 tracks without glitches! What good is the CPU meter reading if it seems to have no correlation to the ability to play back tracks?

Updated Live with a fresh new ntfs format to see if there is a difference with mostly the same hardware: upgraded my ua-25 to a ua-101 (usb 2.0) but i suppose that would not affect the cpu.

UPDATE: Tweaking XP and adding 2 Gbs brought it down to 41% at 8 tracks.
Latin Percussion still doesn't open much (if any) faster.
