ableton needs to be half the price

Post by ash1 » Fri Apr 03, 2009 8:18 am

i think ableton is way over priced in the current credit crunch
neeeds to be half the price it is now i know the company needs to develop the software but i think a lot of people using ableton 7 will stay put.
a lot of potencial buyers will be put off by the price.
ableton 8 im my eyes is still a work in progress not a finished
article wonder when the first upgrade to fix bugs and the like will be available.
users who do venture to buy ableton 8 will soon be crying out for the first patch from the off im sure .
waiting for the flak which always comes when someone doesnt like what has been posted feel free bring it on.

I didn't know the company was up for sale.

Ableton still has bills to pay, and is still a small company in the grand scheme of things. Its employees are affected by the credit crunch, just like we all are. Reducing the cost of Live or the upgrades wouldn't help Ableton in the long term. It needs all the revnue it can get.

The position I am in is this: I am strapped for cash; I really want the Live 8 upgrade; and I am considering whether I can afford it.

The fact that I am considering whether to get the upgrade or to pay the rent/buy food leads me to conclude that, as music is a hobby and not a living for me, I probably can't afford it.

I'd love to be able to afford lots of things right now; using your logic then every consumer item should be dropped in price.

I think all of our anger, in terms of how much stuff costs, should be directed at governments, banks and utility companies. If we weren't being ripped off by these people, we'd all have more disposable income to spend on music gear!

If Ableton halved the price, they would need to make twice as many sales. If you collected half the price from 500 mates, I am sure you could negotiate something with the Abes. It's basic business.

Man, I TOTALLY agree! I came to the forum this morning for the express purpose of THANKING the Abes for being righteous. It's a KILLER deal. Better than I expected considered the quantum leap they made in 8. Suite is a horrendously good deal if you look at the purchase price of the individual packages and you don't already have a ton of their proprietary stuff.

Can't wait for my card to cycle...just a few more days of salivating!

Don't buy.

Exactly! If the current price doesn't make business sense, it will force a change.

Personally, I'm sitting this one out to see what deals are offered to late upgraders. In the mean time I've got a nice Live 7 work flow.

that's funny - especially when you consider how much Logic used to cost.... makes you think...

I'm going to try the Live 8 demo tonight and decided whether its worth it. Really not sure.

Oh and Meef - I believe you live just round the corner from me....

That comparison should be using Live 8 base, not Suite. Live is in the same price range as other DAWs.
