WHAT IS THE BEST MASTERING TOOLS / VST FOR ABLETON!!!???!!!
WHAT IS THE BEST MASTERING TOOLS / VST FOR ABLETON!!!???!!!
Hello! I am brand new to ableton looking to record the most high quality tracks possible. Ive been told that ableton sucks for mastering (after my purchase of it) but I know it can be done. Ableton is very useful for what I am doing with music, so I find it hard to believe mastering in it could be so difficult. I have played around with the mastering tools in Ableton 7 and they are pretty cool. I am looking for tips on the best methods to use them. I am also wondering if any VST are much better and can produce much finer masterings.
I have heard good things about Ozone and others.
Can anybody help this alien metal trance addict out???

getting a recording done is far seperated from mastering.
to get good recordings you need good signal path and a high quality input.
so, the question bears some reassessment.
are you looking for mastering advice, or recording advice?

if you are talking about mastering effects i think live's are great now. i really like the new limiter, you can take up every single db with it. its kind of funny to not see a master faders meter not move at all.

I don't think you should be doing your own mastering. Judging by your all-caps subject line you have no concept of dynamics and will likely compress the shit out of anything you master
Live 7, Logic Studio 8, Mac Pro 8-core/2.26/6GB, OS X 10.5.6, Saffire Pro 40, Alesis M1 Active 520s, Remote SL 37, Virus TI Snow, Nord Rack 2, Zebra 2, Sylenth1

I WOULD LOOK AT GETTING A LOT OF OUTBOARD GEAR, YOU CANNOT DO PROPAR MASTARING IN COMPUTERS. YOU MUST USE THINGS LIKE MASSENBERG EQ AND AVALON DISTRESSOR LA2A'S. YOU WILL SPEND MOAR MONEY BUT YOUR MUSIC WILL SOUND MASSAVE IN CLUBZ.

I here this is probably one of the best for ableton:

As far as I know it also works well with Logic, Cubase, etc.

This topic has been discussed ad nauseum many times before, even in the very recent past so I can't be arsed to chime in on it in any depth as previously.
#1 suggestion - consider upgrading to Live 8. Live 7 does not have a limiter, nor does it have a multiband dynamics. Both of which are helpful tools in the box to have.
There are a myriad of 3rd party choices ranging from standalone software such as Ozone and T-racks, to specialized mastering bundles, i.e. Waves, Sonnox or individual plugins such as Voxengo Elephant (limiter), or precision mastering EQs and other tools and way too many more for me to list.

It's always better to have someone else master your music.
I personally do only trust those guys:

I see how this topic can be mundane... I will go with upgrading first off...
I really dont mean to be a bother. I am just very new to recording. Ive been making music for about 10 years though, and now the next step is rec. my material well, and get the best quality possible.
thanks for the links.
