Live 8 pretty much useless for me.....

Post by Hardtoe » Mon Apr 06, 2009 6:40 pm

Well, I had big hopes, but so far I have had no luck getting live to load my old sets - I have never had this problem with an update of Live before (and I have been doing this since ver 3) - almost every set I try to load (even simple ones with not many fx) crash before they even open - how's that for fun - I hope we see some updates soon because I cant even try live 8 out at this point (I really want to use the new grouping features for mixing) - Am I alone in this hell of spinning wheels??? I havent contacted tech support as I dont even know where to start looking for my issue....:(

(btw on a mac pro 8 core 2.8 / 10.5.6 with some plugs which use ilok - could this be the culprit???)

I see a screwed up version of the graphics right before the crash....

I'm on the same MacPro as you, and Live 8 runs beautifully. Haven't even shut the program down since I installed it the day it was released.

my guess is there is a pluggin that is conflicting, a pluggin you probably used in a lot of old sets.

if you can think of a really common one that you use all the time try removing it from your plugin folder (and then resacn/restart) and then see if the set opens
It was as if someone shook up a 6 foot can of blood soda and suddenly popped the top.

Ya, I guess I'll have to dive in - really busy right now though, so not able to devote mush time to it yet - I also have extensive use of sends, which may be an issue....

It works fine for me on new sets as well, but this is not what I want to do with it......

This sounds like a plug-in issue.

I too make extensive use of sends 8-12 at times and in previous versions i've had problems with plug-ins that made me want to scream!

I'd start with the most used and go from there. Good Luck!

thanks for all the support guys - some good ideas I will try ASAP - glad to know I'm not the only suffering through send hell (what's the quickest way to bring an 8-core to it knees with 10 plugins???? hah!) What is the Live 7 legacy pack????

hmmm, I feel so out of it not knowing this after using live since ver 3, but can someone explain this increases backwards compatibility and how I install it into the new library (I never dealt with the live library much except for making my own chains of effects and saving the names there.....)

yeah, I get that a lot. I've been writing code lately, so I write something, then it takes ~12 minutes to compile (Verilog, it takes a while), got nothing better to do. my work attitude's not real great lately either, starting to get carpel-tunnel so I can't get that much done.

TBH that's part of Live that I only use from time to time, so the process isn't engrained in my head.

file - install Live Pack
point Live to the pack

then
start a blank Live set
file - Manage Live Set
the menu on the right pops up
hit Import Samples into Library
the File Manglement System moves the stuff from your .als into the Library.

I might be wrong, someone else might chime in later. if you're stuck, I'll be home in a few hours.
