For sure. IR and algo reverbs are as different the way samples and other types of synthesis are different. Altiverb has an amazing, well engineered 'sample' library that makes it special. Aether feels like it's innovating on the algorithmic side - it's got kind of a signature, unique effect-y quality that is aesthetically rich.

Not only that. There are particular limitations with convolution reverbs in that you cannot physically change properties of a particular acoustic space once it has been recorded as a FIR. You cannot, for example, extend the decay time longer than the length of the sample itself, or you cannot adjust the pre-delay and/or ER values of the convolution reverb, since it has all these parameters fixed in the sampled wave file.

You actually can change some of this data in Altiverb. That said, your best option is probably to choose the correct IR in the first place, and between the huge included library and the available 3rd party sets your options don't feel limited by any means.

Yes and I am really sad about this ...I have Speakerphone and would love to try Altiverb...

Still you have to admit... It's hard to pass up at least downloading a demo of product, now offered at $125, when it's being compared to a $500 IR reverb like Altiverb. This is after all an algorithmic reverb, and IMO this does a beautiful job of recreating space.

If you haven't tried it, make sure you do. This only lasts till Friday.

Hey man, the good news is that they're already working on a 1.1 release to address a lot of issues. Hopefully they'll address CPU load.

They did say that they are taking into consideration GUI changes and will be working to address it, possibly with an alternative.

So for sure, at least one of the two won't be an issue forever... and in time I imagine they'll take care of both issues. These guys are extremely receptive to critiques, complaints, etc... All more reasons to feel good about buying in!

no-seriously, I really was not impressed with this reverb, at any price. in fact I was very disappointed, their approach was great. The ik multimedia CSR reverb collections is great if you have the dough, or for less there is a wonderful ADverb from Audio damage, and BY FAR you could get a much better deal by sepding the introductory $150 over at U-HE for his uhbik plug in s collection, which truly is phenomanal, including hte reverb... really, a nice reverb, plus amazing filter and flanger combined for a fraction of the cost of aether. I can't tell you how excited I was and then how let down I was by that reverb... uhbik all the way

heh, no I don't press vinyl or digitally release tunes, I'm just a peon making crumbs in the local TV industry, I mix in stereo which seems to be a NONO with you cocksucker types.
