I'm on 6. Is live 8 really worth the upgrade?
Hi, I see lots of you are really happy with 8 (no bugs??? !!! )
I'm still on 6, and it works great. The only thing that interested me when 7 was released was the new compressor.
Now 8 is out. I read lots of things about it, but still feel like, well, I'm retarded.
What's the big thing?
What did I miss?
I'll be glad if some of you explained to me what is really interesting in this new acclaimed release?
Just to precise things:
I don't need drum racks, osc or max msp stuff. I don't need a new library, suite, I never used a single "extra" live stuff (like operator, sampler...), and I don't need some (I just bought 2 hardware synths and massive).
I just don't see what live 8 could give me that live 6 doesn't.
Any opinion appreciated!
cheers

I wouldn't upgrade just for the compressor. I mean, it's great but there are lots of options.
I like a lot of the stuff you aren't interested in:
DrumRacks, GroovePool, Operator, and I know a lot of folks are excited about the Looper (I don't have a need at the moment).

actually, you should downgrade back to Live 4, I hear the good old days of the forum is a permanent feature in that version

Track grouping is stellar. Make no mistake

groove system was my main selling point.....ummmm corpus forced me to get collision too...corpus is a hell of a sound design tool.

Although they should have been added long ago, the crossfaders make Live a better editor. Live 7.0.7 was my first experience with Live. Pricing aside, I think 8 is an improvement. I really like the frequency shifter and it is now one of my most utilized effects, so, for me, I'm giddy for 8.monstrejumo wrote:Hi, I see lots of you are really happy with 8 (no bugs??? !!! )

I've just upgraded from 5.2.2.
It's taken me a few days to grok a small part of the changes, but I am blown away!

Re: I'm on 6. Is live 8 really worth the upgrade?
thanks for all that feedback!
For the sound synthesis devices like operator, analog, tension, sampler, collision, groove system, I don"t feel the need.
perhap's the new audio engine, warping tool, effects (freequency shifter...) and GUI options could be a good improvement too.
Thanks a lot, I'll read more info on all this stuff.
Cheers
I'll take a look at the track grouping tool, this seems interesting. But what do you mean by "stellar" ? complex? +1 or -1 ?e.maynard wrote:Track grouping is stellar. Make no mistake
well, I still don't feel attracted by another mean to use my drum samples, I'm used to simple impulses... but I know that could be great with my padkontrol... I'll take a further look on it too. But I still feel it's not a must-have for me. not sure +1cmreal04 wrote:You don't have drum racks...upgrade get drum racks...you'll get them when you upgrade.
I did forget this device was released in live 7, it could improve my composition process I guess... to sum it up, it is like you have only one track for midi and audio? I'm used to have one midi track and one audio track for one external synth channel, I'll have a browse on this forum to see if "external instrument device" is reallly useful... maybe +1 ?m:o wrote:you have external synths and you're on 6 ?

I forgot this one too! Since I'm more and more working with audio in the arrangement view, I guess that could be really good for me... no need to have multiple tracks just to have audio clips crossfading... +1scott nathaniel wrote:the crossfaders make Live a better editor
