Anyone know a free Note Detection / Tuner Vst or AU (Mac)?
Hey guys,
Does anyone know a free guitar tuner-like VST or AU for Mac?
I have been creating samplers/simplers with found sounds, stuff from the web, etc and I am trying to build my library but I am trying to make sure they are all tuned correctly (aka a C on C, etc). So far I have just been holding my guitar tuner up to my monitor, but I just wanted to see if anyone knew of an AU or VST solution because it would obviously be easier.
Thanks in advance.
PS: I did google, only found Tuneit - which isn't what I need.
PPS: I would prefer an AU or VST to a dashboard widget or iPhone app, I know about those.

this is slightly off-base, but Live's Spectrum device has a 'note' mode where you can see where the dominant harmonic falls on the note scale.
it's certainly free, and very available

Aha. It works! I don't know if I love the interface (you have to hold your mouse over the peak to see the note) but it certainly does the job.
Thanks Angstrom!

it's not very well labeled, it's the bit that says "scale X : Lin Log ST "
ST = 'note names' !
I'm assuming that contraction actually makes some sense in German
[edit]
yeah , it's not perfect .. but it is free and available

Yeah, I just used the "notes" preset because I am a preset kinda guy
I guess I should have RTFM (past tense), this is rad.

I think ST stands for semitones. But what do I know. Anyway, while it's a nice function and all, it's still pretty useless as a tuner - nowhere near enough precision.
So, I'm still looking for a free tuner plugin for OSX (au or vst).

i havnt found anything that works as a tuner yet for OSX 10.5.x free or paid.
repost a link if you find something.
what i have been doing is fire off a tunnimg clip when i set up and just tune in my headphones to the clip.

You know what, I have just made about 100 different Simplers in the last hour and I like it, I have it working and it's totally speeding this process of retuning basses up. It's precise enough for me - for the music I do, slightly (as in a few cents) out of tune adds a little tension I like. I urge you all looking for a tuner to spends some time with this.SMonk wrote:I think ST stands for semitones. But what do I know. My only wish: ZOOM
I don't think that's asking too much.
