Careful if you're getting rid of Live 7 !

Post by wildcon » Tue Apr 14, 2009 11:36 pm

Hi,

Having got Live 8 running pretty well, I decided to blast Live 7.

I loaded up my projects to check they were fine on 8 and to my horror
a couple sounded totally different (and not in a good way!!).

I haven't had time to check properly, but I think one is to do with Operator
changing. The sound is basically the same but phased to hell 8O

The other one is totally out of tune in some parts! This one will be more difficult as
it is pretty much all 3rd party plugs and VSTi's.

I'll check more thoroughly tomorrow and let you know, but I'd definitely check before
uninstalling Live 7.

Cheers

Why on earth would you uninstall Live 7 at this point?

yea 8.0.1 means this won't crash as often as the beta..........wait until 5 releases after this version. Also make sure your sets sound the same between the two versions. I remeber this happened to me going from live 6 to live 7

You did the right thing posting this, because it can definitely be a hard lesson to learn.

While the last 2 posters are correct, I prefer not to mock the OP, just be thankful that he had the courage to post, because OBVIOUSLY if the OP had known what would happen by uninstalling L7, he wouldn't have done it !!

Where the other posters are correct though is that it is definately a good idea to keep an old version around for a good while after a new release, and if you have enough resources/HD space, it does no harm to leave old versions installed.

Is your Operator in a Rack or simply standalone as a preset?

Just re-install Live 7, you still have the unlock codes no?

UKRuss, this triggers a question I always had...
As a legit owner of L7 Boxed Suite I can upgrade to L8.
After I have authorized L8 I guess I loose activation codes
for my old L7 isn't it? Until L7 is installed it works but
re-install it.. I thought it wasn't possible.

Don't mess up your activations for me... it's not worth trying!

I only did a brief jump to Live7 recently to get the Live8 discount, so I'm comming from 6 to 8 and Quite a few of my songs are all distorted and crazy thing going on with my clip envelopes....
I think I'll wait a few more releases before I start remixing any old tracks too.

Even some of the work from early Live 8 betas are now distorted.

Mr. Willyum.........

yea, for now just start new beats and sets on live 8...probably by 8.0.3 your beta files will work out to be much better and by 8.0.5 your live 7 sets should be fine as well.....

anyone import all of their live 7 custom presets in 8 yet? i' still skeptical if they will give a full translation, that's why i am sticking to my samples folders and making presets from there.

Hi There,

Normally I keep the old version for at least a month or two - Have been since version 2 to 3 :)

However I desperately need to create some space on my laptop so was going to uninstal 7
as my tracks seemed fine with 8 (I've been using the Beta for a month)

I'm not on my DAW laptop, so will need to check but the problem plug was a rack with
Operator, chorus, saturator and something else(I think). I'll check it.

Cheers

you dont lose authorization for old versions.. not sure where you got that idea

I would not sweat uninstalling any version. Maybe three years later I would uninstall 6.0.1 etc

with 500Gb+ HD's are you really hurting for that ~300MB or whatever?
