OS X 10.4 vs 10.5 with v.8?
OS X 10.4 vs 10.5 with v.8?
Hey guys- I've got OS X 10.4.11, started up Live v.8 a couple days ago, and have since seen lots of crashes and poor performance overall. Anyone compared performance of v.8 on OS X 10.4 vs. 10.5 and seen better results? Thinking of updating to 10.5 (I have an iMac 2.16G 1.5 G of RAM) Thanks in advance! -Alex

I'm on the latest version of Leopard and have not had a crash yet with Live 8. Seems very stable.

I'm on 10.4.11 and have yet to have a crash.
Re: OS X 10.4 vs 10.5 with v.8?
I'm on 10.5.6 Leopard.
My last mix is running about 48 tracks, tonnes of effects and hardware wired up.
Result for 8.0.1:
Frequent crashes, I save every 2 minutes, lol.
Slow and draggy, during a lot of operations.
CPU hits about 35-40%, but a lot of pops and glitches.
I'm used to working this way, but the slow and draggy behaviour is what i can't stand. The beach volleyball of death scares me!
Hope this helps, I don't think the situation is any better. Yeah, running 2 or 3 tracks, everything seems stable. But a full fledged mix, nope.

I bought Live 8 and ran it on Tiger for about a week or two before I made the upgrade from 10.4.11 to Leopard 10.5.6 (something I'd been putting off for a while anyway) and I can honestly say that v8 runs smoother for me. Still not problem free...but better. I'd recommend upgrading. You'll probably have to do it now or later anyways.

Thanks for the info... hmmmmm, still not sure. I may just update to 10.5 and see how it goes. If I do, I'll run a performance test for both and post. -Alex

So I have patiently waited for months now to purchase a MBP and will have enough within the next two weeks.
Will Leopard come standard ? 15" or 17", what's you're opinion?
Plan on looping live, but also plan to use live as my main DAW also.
Sorry to OT, but since this is MAC related and don't want to start a flam war....

10.5.6 here
I'm finding V8 very stable. I haven't had a crash since the betas. I use tons of plug-ins, and I use them in ways that would possibly be unstable like running automap plug-ins inside Kore 2 and things seem well.

Professional Shark Jumper.
Re: OS X 10.4 vs 10.5 with v.8?
10.5.6 upgraded 8 from 7.0.15. MacBook Pro.
The only problem I've seen (other than some library issues reported by many) was a very slow startup.
Trashing preferences cured that immediately.

I've had no crashes whatsoever under 10.5.6

Any thoughts if this upgrade is worthwhile?
I have put off the leopard upgrade a long time is it worth it?
