Copy and paste warp markers in live 8?

Post by electric1 » Tue Apr 28, 2009 3:23 am

Is there a way to copy and paste a set of warp markers from one clip to another in Live 8? I know you could do it in 7, but I'm trying the demo of live 8 and I can't seem to do it anymore. Also, the section in the manual that covered this is now gone.

I'm trying to warp an acapella track by first warping the full track (because it has drums and is much easier to warp) and then copying the warp markers to the acapella track. Is there a better way to do this? I tried multi-warping them from the arrange view, but then I can't do things like move the first marker or use the "warp from here" functions.

If anyone could tell me a good way to warp an acapella I would really appreciate it! I am still new to Live and am trying to get used to the whole warping thing, and the fact that it changed between 7 and 8 isn't making it any easier.

Thanks for any help!

save the groove template from the warp markers you created, then apply that to your other files

Any plans by Ableton to add this back in? What was once super easy in Live 7 is now a royal pain in @ss. I actually go back into Live 7 just for this function.

This is a crucial function for getting acapellas to match the tempo. Extracting a groove template for a full song take forever and rarely works as well as just copying the warp markers.

Moderators? Any word from the company on this?

to warp acapellas to the backing track
go to arrange view
drop the master track into track 1
put the slave tracks into the other tracks
select the tracks
warp the top track
the rest will follow

this is in the manual and has been available for years.

Yes!! Thank you much. I've used master/slave before but didn't think of it for this function.

So, nevermind...Live 8 rocks.

AWESOME, thanks tonemeister. I knew this once, but obviously it was pushed out of the back of my head in favour of something new.

I've got a different situation, but the same wish (to paste warp markers from one clip onto another).

I played a guitar riff, then spent a while moving warp markers around. But I recorded the riff in stereo (2 diff output sounds, one on each channel). I only warped the Left clip before I realized I wasn't warping the group. Now I want to paste Left's warp markers onto the Right clip.

Can it be done?

Groove extraction didn't do it for me. When I apply a groove, extracted from Left, it makes the Right all grainy sounding, but doesn't warp its notes into the same time slots as Left's.

Oh, and I tried the "Commit" button, but that just seems to lock in the effect of the Groove, as expected. Since the groove ain't fixin' Right's timing to match Left's, the Commit button's no help in this case.

what about deleting the file the .asd refers to and then naming your other file to the name as the one you deleted?

I'm struggling with this too. The manual says the BOTTOM track is the master but I can't get it to affect the other tracks either way. And the manual I have is not very clear on how to keep the new warp on the track (once I figure that out) so I can move it back to the Session view. Also a little frustrated that I can't select a Group (like Drums) and then choose the Warp from Here options, etc. They aren't there!

Can confirm that 'extract groove' and paste to other files does not work - timings don't match.

The master/slave thing looks nice but you CANNOT QUANTIZE AUDIO with it! Which makes 8's new features pretty useless :(

Damn!

I've had no luck with replacing .asd files either - has this worked for anyone in 8?

Thanks
