Hardware synth users - please help me figure
this should really be one of the duh! moments, I tried everything, even rtfm and still banging my head against the wall..
The challenge:
the synth (Nord Lead 2x) has 4 slots which transmit on different MIDI channels
I want 4 MIDI tracks in Live to play audio from the 4 corresponding slots of the NL2X
What I do:
Put External Instrument plugin on each MIDI track
in the Ext. Inst plugin I choose Channels: 1 through 4 respectively for each midi track
The Problem:
Now when I launch Midi clips on all 4 Midi tracks I hear audio from all 4 slots of the NL2X on EACH Midi track. If I unfold the Channel list of the Ext. Inst plugin on any of the Midi tracks I see that Midi data (yellow meter) is going on all 4 Midi channels, thus resulting in audio from all 4 slots of the NL2X.
So how do I send Midi data only on ONE Midi channel per track and hear ONLY the audio corresponding to that Midi channel on the synth?

Set the "Midi to" channel in your external instrument device.
Connect 4 separate audio leads from the back of the Nord to 4 inputs of your soundcard.

this is exactly what i've been afraid of8O wrote: Connect 4 separate audio leads from the back of the Nord to 4 inputs of your soundcard.
that i need a new soundcard
still, thanks for clarifying!
Re: Hardware synth users - please help me figure
What kind of soundcard do you have? Any chance that you have stereo inputs you can use as 2xmono?
Re: Hardware synth users - please help me figure
Also: I don't own the Nord, but I'm assuming you don't want to constrain each part to a keyboard split area?
Re: Hardware synth users - please help me figure
It sounds like you have your Nord set to use the stereo outs, so all of your multitimbrals are running through the same 2 outputs on the Nord. Change part one to mono one, and part two to mono two, and you can at least have 2 parts separated.
Live rig: HP DV6604nr, Live 8, MAudio 1814, Virus Snow, Waldorf Blofeld

Re: Hardware synth users - please help me figure
It's a NI Audio Kontrol 1, so just 2 mono inputs altogether
(no board splits)
yes, just assigned the slots on the Nord to the respective outs and everything works as intended.
at least i got 2 now
thanks!
