compression effects
compression effects
Hi there, ive upgraded to live 7 full version.
can you tell me where i can get tutorials for using vocal effects and compression.i have looked in live manual but it doesnt go into detail about individual effects.
many thanks

Re: compression effects
yep, google helps:
Compressibility [work on]
The reciprocal value of the bulk modulus is the compressibility (symbol: ? or ?), also compressibility coefficient. This is often used with gases and liquids instead of the bulk modulus.
One differentiates between isothermal compressibility ?T (constant temperature T and constant particle number of N), whereby F (T, V, N) the free energy is and adiabatic compressibility ?S (constant entropy S and constant particle number of N), whereby E (S, V, N) the internal energy is
For a long time the compressibility was doubted by liquids, to it John CAN clay/tone 1761, Jacob Perkins 1820 and Hans Christian Oersted 1822 by measurements to prove could. With gases the compressibility follows the Boyle Mariotte law.
Bulk modulus of solids with isotropic material behavior [work on]
One can calculate the bulk modulus here by other elasticity constants, under a condition linear reading tables of behavior and isotropic material:
where: ? E - Modulus of elasticity ? µ - Poissonzahl ? G - Shear modulus

^ can we just ban this smart ass?
don't compress! it's an awful effect that destroys music!
this guy's guides are very well respected. learn mastering and production techniques, those will guide you on WHEN to use compression.

things sound good because they were recorded and played beautifully, not because someone added effects.

Re: compression effects
// damn you guys are way too fast for me could no post this here in time....
okay, before i come across as arrogant idiot (...):
The first question to ask is not what does the compressor do, the first question is: what sound do you want to get on the vocals? And if you think a compressor is the way to go, why not simply using the build in in Live and play with it till you get an idea of what goes on. If you want to know what a compressor does in general, so that you can make more sense out of : Gain-reduction, Ratio,Threshold, Attack, Release, you will find indeed a lot of stuff online.

i always zip up the vocal track.
don't forget to unzip it though
live doesn't read .zip
