FINALLY ! Wacom Support in 8.0.2 -> Big Thanks
Re: FINALLY ! Wacom Support in 8.0.2 -> Big Thanks
can someone please post a vid of using a wacom with ableton.. maybe i am missing the point but i am always looking for ways in improving ergonomics.. currently, i use a kensington mouse pro (actually a trackball) in conjuction with a shuttle pro.. i don't know how a wacom would benefit me.. could someone enlighten on the subject, especially a video?

a video is useless.. there's nothing you could possibly see in there.. you really have to try one for yourself..nuxnamon wrote:can someone please post a vid of using a wacom with ableton.. maybe i am missing the point but i am always looking for ways in improving ergonomics.. currently, i use a kensington mouse pro (actually a trackball) in conjuction with a shuttle pro.. i don't know how a wacom would benefit me.. could someone enlighten on the subject, especially a video?

Re: FINALLY ! Wacom Support in 8.0.2 -> Big Thanks
cool.
is it possible to develop applications for this thing (guess this is a stupid question, of course it must be!)? there is a lot of creative potential with these tablets. the smooth touch sensitivity seems just begging to be used for modulation: filtersweeps, dry/wet efx settings, triggering stuff ...
besides the obvious, easy drawing in modulation curves, triggering clips, filling sequecer lines on the fly.
i'm considering this and the intuos is affordable... if i like it, i might even save up for cintiq.
somehow the pen has more apeal to me than fat fingers on a lemur
and i'd rather launch clips from the screen, than having to puch buttons on a clumsy apc40 (feels so... 90's).
more elegant

just did an impulse buy.
bought the intuos4 large from Wacom europe. price is ok to me.
and the purchase chain is clear and informative. e.g. it clearly states that i can return the goods within 2 weeks, no questions asked.
first time i actually see this clearly written out for the customer and not just hidden away

Be careful of the tablet size.
Personnaly I think that too big tablet are tiring.
For a 20 to 24 inchs display the intuos 4 A5 wide is ideal.

no way you can compare a wacom to the apc40..BoimB son of BoB wrote: and i'd rather launch clips from the screen, than having to puch buttons on a clumsy apc40 (feels so... 90's).

imo for launching clips the apc40 is way more elegant since you have two hands to push the pads,
versus only one hand to hold one pen.. totally different experience..
let alone you can almost hit the apc 40 pads blindfolded, the pen requires precise navigation to click the clip's play button..
there's nothing 90's about the apc40..

larger tablets (A4) are only useful for when you're going to do drawings in photoshop and stuff like that..

A normal mouse and a wacom work together as expected (short test, I don't like mise )

i use my intuos4 alot but for me the mouse is better in live because i can use the 6 buttons for short cuts. nice to have the option to draw in envelopes but for every thing else mouse.
seen an interesting vid with somebody using a wacom max msp & live looked very cool as a midi controller.

time to finally take up drawing then.
If not, at least my biceps will get some workout ... alternatively, i just end up with a tennis elbow.

Re: FINALLY ! Wacom Support in 8.0.2 -> Big Thanks
Help Please...
I can't get this to work.
Library > Preferences >
no ableton folder there so i created Ableton/Live 8.0.2/Options.txt
in that file: -AbsoluteMouseMode - plain text
Also tried to put the Options.txt in Live 8.0.2 application folder
Yes I'm sure i'm running the 8.0.2 executable
--------
and another question:
will this also work with Intuos 3 in MOUSE mode, which means: using the pen with relative positioning, cause that has never worked so far either.
--------
Thank you.
