Tons of patch cables and fragile music equipment don’t mix well with a chaotic environment. 8)

My studio is never extremely tidy.
To each his own, I work well when I don't make rules for myself, so if I choose to not clean up, then I work well, if I choose to clean up I work well.
I'm inspired, I'm not tidying up -- not inspired, maybe tidying up will clean the brain.

You know another big plus to hardware? it's sitting there demanding you use it on a track. I have a lot of options on the laptop, but the hardware practically demands to be used, this gets me far more familiar with my hardware than my software. Only Absynth and Zebra which I've been using forever am I anywhere near as comfortable with.
Don't get me wrong I love options, but having favorites and subsequently a few familiar sounds that become part of your signature is also IMO of value.

So true! I had to pare down my gear simply to stop all the yelling!
