I know this doesn't help but..
My last project before the 10.5.7 update was running at around 45% with spikes at 60% and causing all kinds of dropouts. After the 10.5.7 update it runs smooth at about 40% CPU usage in Live. However, the MBPro (2.33GHZ 3Gb) is significantly hotter and the fans are running flat out. The power supply is even hot to the touch which I never noticed before. To be honest I don't mind as long I get the extra performance.

Then there's something different causing this.
Please send a support message to support@ableton.com, include the information asked for here:

... and also please describe the set and your audio settings in detail.

Thanks,

Note: I'm still having the same problems on my girlfriend's Macbook with similar set up OS X 10.5.7 and Ableton 8.0.2

But her fans are going up to 6,500RPM+

Not sure what to do anymore....

I also have a late 2008 Macbook pro, my main problem is crashes, a lot of crashes.
And I think cpu usage is also too high,.. while I do nothing intense.

I hope an update could solve this? I also use 8.0.2

This can't be good.

I also have pretty random crashes, but that's been happening since the first version of Live 8.

I e-mailed support, hopefully they can help.

This is unacceptable....

This is not the right forum area for this (Bugs&Problems would be).

But in case of crashes you should send a detailed support request and the logfiles directly to support@ableton.com instead the bugs&problems forum.

Ok you got a problem with 8 BUT you can manage easily to work Consolidated samples warped within Live8.

As soon as you consolidate your sample, you vcan use in whatever previous version of live.

I can afford the price at the end of june BUT I would so much like to buy the 7 before 8.

Do you think the abes would accept to pay for the upgrade from live lite 7 to live 8 and maybe with a few discount, a license for 7... Damn I had to wait for buying the full version but at 3 months closed, I would have been happy with live 7

Sorry for this OT.

I only hope 8 will get more stable... and maybe less cpu hungry [about 10% more cpu usage than version 7]

I'm bored with lite edition [especially since I tried the ubber demo 8]

269euros is nice for upgrading to ableton live 8.

and I can always upgrade later for suite [discount should be interesting for live owners]

I have occassionally had the same behavior on previous projects when moving from one version of LIVE to the next. Sometimes old projects don't translate into the new environment well. I think you will find if you create a new project the problem will go away. Code changes happen, that's life in the software age. Don't get hung up on one project...move on. Or, as the previous member mentioned, go back to the previous version when working on this one project.

I'm sorry to say but the problem still persists....

As soon as I opened up a project in Ableton the fans start spinning immediately. Going upwards of 5,000RPM in no time. The CPU also raises temperature by like 40 degrees!

Nothing else is causing this. On itstat it says Ableton is using the most CPU. No matter how big the project is.

Why is Ableton eating so much more CPU? This doesn't make sense.

I e-mailed support but still no answer. I can't even make any music because of this.

Any thoughts?

A blank new project makes your cpu max out?

Ya. I've got a few.

Download live 7.15 (which you own) from the ableton website.
Install it.
Make music.

Noodle/play around with live 8 until it's working well enough for you to use it all the time.
(yes it's a son-of-a-bitch that it's not working for you right now, but if making music is a priority for you - I've given you the best advice)

If you need any assistance with downloading live 7.15, please don't hesitate to ask.
