The new dubstep

forgive me for my ignorance but I have never been good on the different genres and subgenres of electronic music.. Is dubstep another name for drum and bass or is it that jamaican vibe with hip hop beats? The only time I hear of french house is that it started that whole ducking and sidechaining thing.. It's only thru this forum that i've heard of deadmouse, justice, etc but i still couldn't tell you what genre there supposed to be in.. but i do like listening to these guys when i hear it..

As for the rest of you clowns, I realize dubstep has been developing a while, I meant in terms of becoming super popular and bleeding into mainstream. It is over the past two years or so dubstep has become "the big thing". As far as I can tell. In any case, that's exactly what I meant. What mini-genre or scene is poised to blow all hell up the way dupstep was a few years ago?

Dubstep = 140 bpm, typically half time, typically shuffled, typically with HEAVY, HEAVY, HEAVY bass. Some incorporates reggae, DNB, influence, other techno, or hip-hop. The cool thing about it is that it's going a bunch of different directions at once.

Meh i couldnt class Rusko as 'typical' dubstep to be honest. Hes more dubstep for 15 year old and radio Benga/Skream etc are more accurate examples of dubstep, much more minimal sounding that Ruskso midrangey/screetchy. Ruskos rhythms are also in general alot faster/livlier than said typical dubstep.

I can smell a resurgence in Drum and Bass. I don't know why, but all the stuff that has been biting D&B basslines and such, I imagine it will be back in full by this time next year.

Quite intersting that, as quite alot of the more prolific dusbtep producers atm came from a DrumnBass background, and alot of darker dusbtep incoorporates the mid-rangey/growling sounds taken from DnB.
Also, with Pendulum being signed to Warner last year, and Chase & Status signed to - a subsiduar of - Universal, you could well be on the right mark. Something Id be hoping for, seeing as thats where Im wanting to go

Absolutely, the average male count on the floor will remain at 75 - 125 depending on the size of the venue.

I also agree with DJDJ that Glitch Mob style stuff is going to blow up. For those in denial, Hip Hop is still packing floors more than Electronica so the fusion of Hip Hip and Electronica would be the obvious progression.

I agree re: Skream/Benga for the educated heads, unfortunately most Dubstep heard stateside is the Rusko-esque midrangey stuff so I wanted to give a relate able example. (Key word = most).

+ 1 to Glitch-hop (or whatever you want to call it) definitely momentum there as well.
