The new dubstep

Post by pulsoc » Wed May 27, 2009 7:18 pm

So as far as I can tell dubstep is the major electronic music tradition to arise in the past two years. Well, besides french house.

What's the next one going to be?

If we knew we'd be listening to it instead of dubstep ;)
haha no really not a clue, any pointers anyone?
am interested to see where house goes in the next couple of years, as its gone from funky to electro to fidget, wondering where it could go next...

And Dubstep since the Early 2000's

Check out the UK Funky scene. It's a cross between 2step and 90's house and Detroit Techno made by Dubstep producers. Tis good.

I can smell a resurgence in Drum and Bass. I don't know why, but all the stuff that has been biting D&B basslines and such, I imagine it will be back in full by this time next year.
15" PB 2.5 Ghz, 4 Gig RAM, 750 GB HD, Live 9 still no cue points or program change messages?!?. Doesn't do shit.

forgive me for my ignorance but I have never been good on the different genres and subgenres of electronic music.. Is dubstep another name for drum and bass or is it that jamaican vibe with hip hop beats? The only time I hear of french house is that it started that whole ducking and sidechaining thing.. It's only thru this forum that i've heard of deadmouse, justice, etc but i still couldn't tell you what genre there supposed to be in.. but i do like listening to these guys when i hear it..

this is just a new wave of instrumental hiphop

dubstep is sort of 2 step and garage/grime

loads of subbass, and know for the "wobble"

google skream for the biggest name in the scene

Dubstep isn't Drum and Bass, it's like Drum and Bass' son that ran away from home at 15 and is doing his own thing.

Dubstep = 140 bpm, typically half time, typically shuffled, typically with HEAVY, HEAVY, HEAVY bass. Some incorporates reggae, DNB, influence, other techno, or hip-hop. The cool thing about it is that it's going a bunch of different directions at once.

Example of "typical" Dubstep sound: Rusko
Example of "weird"-er Dubstep: Kode 9, Joker, Martyn
