depending on the signal path of the vcr, you should be able to leave it on record and use an external audio FX device in live

I did that with a reel to reel, worked well. you adjust the timing in the plugin..(based on distance between record and playback heads)

thinking... maybe it does not work that way on a vcr. for example it doesn't look like crap while you're taping something. probably monitors the inputs

?

dude I've had a massive collection of VHS for years. you get them at thrift stores around here for $1-4 and they never skip like DVD's ;) and of course all my favorite movies as a kid are easy to find on VHS

There are a lot of movies on VHS that have not been released on DVD.

OT: have any of you see The Tim & Eric Awesome Show: Great Job? They have segments that look exactly like old a worn-out VHS tape recording. I haven't had a VHS for some years (but plan on picking one up), & had forgotten that look. It truly is awesome! :)

+1, they are masters of getting that look and sound. They're probably just using VHS machines, like maybe even camcorders. Tim and Eric are Public Access as hell, yo.

LOVE Tim & Eric! LOVE Public Access!

Yes, their seasons are much too short. I think I have every episode of that ridiculousness DVR'd.

I have been thinking about doing this for a while too - now I HAVE to.

Also, did a track with a friend recording it all to a cassette 4 track and then tossed it all into Live and it sounds awesome.

Analog tape FTW!

Does anyone know a good couple of filters and settings to get the VHS sound? It would be dope to save that as a preset for some of my Trip Hop tracks while I'm on the road and don't want to lug around a VCR! Appreciate it!
