Live 8 bug, stability, other problems---Questions

Post by Gargoyle » Sat Jun 06, 2009 4:32 am

some people are having problems with live 8 and some are not I want to know if the people having problems are using Live 8 by itself without plugins or are there some paticular plugins that are giving people trouble.
so is a case of

problems by itself
problems with instrument plugins
or problems with effect plugs

forgot to say the reason I'm asking is because I'm specificly interested in using
Live 8 for an important project coming up and I won't be using any outside plugins

Mac OS X 10.5.4 here and Live 8 in the last 15 days.
Only plug in is Zebra. Everything else comes from Live Library (suite upgraded from L7 boxed suite)
So far no problem except 1 crash on exiting.

I've only used the ubber demo for 2weeks 8.0.1

But as I manage with a lot of beta or donationware plugins ,
I think my point of view could be useful to you.

Of course there are much more crashes with third-party plugins [effects or instruments], some were not configurable.

I quickly tested 8.0.3 demo [again  ], vsts are well better recognized.

The only crashes I had were there because I pushed the vst's to their limit [Testing time].

Now I can't wait to upgrade at the end of the month. Even if some vst are well in 7 and not so in 8.
I'm confident with the abes.
I only see good quality and good community here. + the customer care is really nice

8.0.3 Suite, a Novation Nocturn (most VST plug-ins wrapped for automap) 3 UAD cards a BCF and a BCR, Sylenth, a ton of shareware & freeware, DAW not connected to internet, TinyXP, no problems.

When I have time I have to do a proper bug report to the abes but for your question:

I'm using A LOT of 3rd party plugins and instruments and I'm sad to say that 10-15 crashes a day is about standard.. :x

I did a test where I run the same plugs in Nuendo and was not able to get it crash.

There is some weird ghost data sent from one plugin to another ... (I need to report this properly soon...)

I'm in the same boat.. I use various plugs, but what crashes Ableton are random events like moving clips around (arrangement), dragging groove templates from pool into audio files, changing presets on plug-ins while Ableton is running.. Hopefully 8.04 will improve things..

I've had mid-plonk crashes with 8.0.1 and 8.0.2 on OSX using true pianos, Korg M1, Omnisphere, and especially my Korg X50 plugin, but none when plugin free or with kontakt, sylenth, or FM8. It doesn't seem to matter if it's AU or VST. I have only had crashes with the X50 plugin on 8.0.3, but once or twice have 'lost' the midi connection to Live and have had to unplug/replug my Novation SL61 to recover (maybe an Automap issue?), could be embarrassing mid set!
