Webhosting
Webhosting
I'm after starting a new website. To begin with it will just be to host a forum, and possibly mixes in the future.
Basically I'm looking for affordable web hosting, that will make my life easy. Maybe with cPanel or something similar, although I just need to be able to host a forum (coding and such isnt a strong point so I don't wanna buy webspace that doesn't support this).
My budget is <£50 per year, including domain name registration.

hostgator is by far the best bang for your buck

We're doing fine with dreamhost. We get several websites running with it.
And little referrals like this actually pay some of our hosting costs.
We've never ran out of bandwidth and I think it'll be quite the challenge to run out of storage. It keeps going up (like google gmail).
They got a good backup system too. Saved my behind more than once in the past.
So sign up so that I can save 40$

Re: Webhosting
dreamhost is pretty awesome. GoDaddy is super cheap too but their support kind of sucks.

Dreamhost makes you pay for support. It's a good host if you're more of an established web person. Their environmental responsibility is nice, but the charge for support killed the deal for me.hoffman2k wrote:http://www.dreamhost.com/r.cgi?210568

I went with Bluehost. They had the easiest integration of MySQL servers (which you'll need for your forum), and they have free tech support (which I needed several times). They are cheaper than Dreamhost too. Bluehost rocks for Wordpress. I pay $100 USD a year for Bluehost.

Weird. They never charged me for support. I mean, I'm already paying.Sales Dude McBoob wrote:Dreamhost makes you pay for support. It's a good host if you're more of an established web person. They even got a support form with urgency settings ranging from "take your time" to "omg the sky is falling".
That being said, the cpanel is pretty good. Usually by the time they get me an answer I already fixed it.
At any rate, as long as my site stays online I'm happy. Coming from B-one, anything seems awesome
Re: Webhosting
I use ANHosting for hosting ($4/month for 1 terabyte of space and unlimited bandwidth) and GoDaddy for registering ($9 for registering, but around $18 if you use private registering, which I HIGHLY recommend so that your name is off the Whois search result). Also, google "GoDaddy coupon" and you can usually get a 10% off deal.
Re: Webhosting
Thanks for the feedback. I went with Bluehost.com. Very reasonable pricing, with cPanel, unlimited space and unlimited bandwidth. Got a phone call for the states to confirm my account, and was online within 2 minutes. So far so good.
Re: Webhosting
^ bluehost and ANhosting are the same company, I believe.
Re: Webhosting
Are bluehost, and anhost fast? Sometimes, shared servers, can take a huge amount of time to download. Cause of all the folk accessing, I think.
Maybe I'm wrong.
I think sometimes, you are better off paying a little more, and taking a little less file transfer, and using a company that has limited the number of folk hosted on each machine.
You have to have a, "bigger than small," company, or a huge amount of people looking at your website, to transfer more than 100 gigabytes a month.
