ok maybe i'm just ignorant but i know of the following expresscard devices:

echo indigo

rme's thing

and firewire cards...

what else is there the warrants so much disappointment?

i guess if your entire setup hinges on one of those things then ok but yeeah... maybe don't build a studio around expresscard??

even i enjoy the use of my express card slot for an eSATA drive... and the possibility to establish all sorts of extra connex with it.

i am way more OK with the fact that they save firewire and loose the E.card slot. rather then the other way around... and to relay on the express card slot for your firewire connex for audio cards... and to me USB audio cards are still a downer, something i would not be happy to use. (even USB 3.0, it is just like windows rotten in it's core... i mean USB... firewire for audio, period)

my2cents...

and yeah a 13" MBP rocks... and snow leopard coming... yum.

You're being facetious, but I would frankly be psyched if there was a 232 port on my laptop. It would make certain things I have to do so much easier.

Yeah, I understand why they lost the expresscard, but it's just annoying. You see, I've always liked my echo indigo pcmia interface for djing; it works really well and means I don't have to carry another box around. I also wanted to get a mac, but the the macbook pros only had expresscard. So I waited for however fucking long for echo to make an expresscard indigo, which they did, and I was excited. Then Apple goes and removes the expresscard slot. It's not a big deal; I'm not going to lose sleep over it, but FFS, y'know?

At least I should be able to power a FW interface over buss power with the macbook pros, unlike my stupid pc.

Anyway, I am excited about the price drop.

My point is, sometimes you gotta look at the bigger picture... I think you already get it though, so I won't patronize you.

I agree, and one must also accept that laptop musicians are not apple's primary demographic for these machines, even though virtually every performer I see uses one.

It all makes sense if apple is coming from a more general computing, cost cutting approach; it's just inconvenient for me and the way I would like to work. It's all academic, however, as by the time I can afford a new laptop, expresscard will probably be obsolete anyway. ;D

rly interested on the 13 MBP here... because of the new battery, the return of firewire and bumped specs. now we are talking. old aluminium 13 macbook was really stupid. and, just a personal taste, but I hate 15 and 17 inch screens, way too big to be a laptop.

With the 13" now having FW, budding music nerds have an affordable Mac laptop choice again that's not the plastic book.

As far as express cards, except for higher-end RME I don't see much use for it. No body knows if the Indigo express cards are all that as of yet.

And people who get RME stuff often belittle people who won't spend that kind of $$$, so they can easily just spring for the 17" with express card.
If you reallly want one, I'm sure there will be deals on refurbs anyways.

I was also kinda hoping for a new iTouch, or the big iTouch!
