Live takes a long time to load

The program Live is taking longer and longer time to load, even though my default/template project is an empty workspace with no recorded audio, midi or anything.

I´m thinking of deleting some of the sample libraries included in Live that I never use. Will Live start faster then?

How long is long? Minutes? How's your general hard-disk free space, still plenty left?

When I started Live in December it took about 15 sec, now half a minute.

Still plenty of hard disc space, hundreds of gigs.

I don't know to me it always took long and still does, a standard project or even just starting live empty takes between 20-40 seconds... It feels like ages...

Could be down to the number of VSTs you have

hide your VST folder, that'll answer that question.
rename your config file to see if it's some setting.
disconnect all your external devices to see if it's those.

Stupid question maybe, but have you tried deleting your Preferences.cfg file?

When starting Live, it takes a very long time to open in OS X.

Please trash the Preferences.cfg file located in the following path:

Mac OS X: /User/Library/Preferences/Ableton/Live

Yes:

Delete the Preferences.cfg file for the version you are trying to open, and re-open Live. You will find this file in the following paths:

Windows (Live 4 and higher): C:\Documents and Settings\your user name\Application Data\Ableton\Live\Preferences

Note that on some Windows systems the application data folder is hidden by default. Here is how to make it visible:

Windows XP/2000:

1. Launch Explorer.
2. Select Tools/Folder Options/View.
3. Check "Show hidden files and folders."

Windows Vista: c:/users/username/appdata/roaming/ableton/Live/Preferences

To make the appdata folder visible, a user has to do the following:

1. Launch the Windows Explorer.
2. Click on 'Organize' -> 'Folder and Search Options' -> 'View'.
3. Check 'Show hidden files and folders'.

With all respect... What a rubbish... Live has two major drawbacks since the existence of it. Mega CPU hungry and super long load times, compared to all other apps.

Disabling my plugin folder? And then making tunes without 3rd party instruments / plugs?
What use is it to know the reason for slow load, if you need the plugs...

Just live with the fact that ableton is weak in that respect.

Besides, i am not a doctor i need stuff to work 'as is' and not tinker around for the abes.

Very slow to load and even slower to save in Live 9 for me.

Windows 7. 32 bit version.

The general slowness reminds me of an earlier version of Live (8 I think) before it was fixed.

Does anyone use an SSD for booting Live, I have found this cuts the time in half , I can now restart without dreading it... but I am on w-7 64 bit using Live 8.4... so I hope when upgrading this does not change boot times... that would suck... I have mega shit tons of vst as well. I am sure an SSD might help remedy this.
