Ableton vs Logic engine

Post by spjuver » Tue Jun 16, 2009 2:55 pm

I guess its a pretty common question in the industry world and I feel that Logic audio engine sounds so much better than Ableton but on the other hand its so much simplier to work in Ableton.

Im always producing track in Ableton and rewiring it to Logic where I mixing it. Sounds better.

Whats is your opinion about it?

Rewiring into other software has never made the audio quality better or worse to my ears.

i dunno about that, but Live 8+an apc 40 + remote sl compact 25+macbook pro sounds much better to me

other than that,i think Logic is really good,Sculpture is amazing,as is Space Designer.what Logic needs to get is more......Live.
it feels more like a studio tool to me than a studio+performance tool, which is what Live is.

just my opinion.....don't start flaming!

To sum up the next 16 pages of the thread, Logic's audio quality isn't any better than Live's. However, it has been perceived to be so for several reasons, mainly the quality of the instruments and effects in Logic, and also the the warping in ableton which people often use to stretch loops degrades the quality. Straight up recording in either with the same third-party effects shouldn't be any different.

So why same track sounds different in both programs?

Never needed anything but Live. I think it sounds great.

Logic is great if you're a bit lazy about getting your sound, Live makes you work a bit harder for the win. But I suspect most people who struggle getting a good sound out of Live simply don't know what they're doing. Logic suits those people better.

whatever.

it's been so done to death at this point i don't even care.

If people really want to believe that logic's "audio engine" sounds better than live's more power too em. When i'm finishing my project, they'll still be grappling with the pickle matrix.

I did some testing on Live's "summing engine" between versions. Results here:

Also, I wrote an article about how stupid it is to use the term "Sound Engine"

Abletons engine is running smooth. So is Logics. It is mainly down to the driver.
