Grooves and delays

Hey, just noticed that when I use lives grooves, applied delays sound out of time. I tried recording the outcome of the returns and put the groove on that, but for some reason this didn´t seem to help. How do you do it?

I guess you should adjust the delays 'sync' paramter on groovy clips...

There is a systematic problem with delays and grooves in general:

The groove is created by slightly shifting parts of a beat away from a straight quantization, and you do this differently for different parts of a bar.
If you apply a delay, you move those shifted parts to other locations within the beat. Only in a totally straight groove this works perfectly well, in a groove, you'll end up with a mess very often.

Since the delay has no idea about what it delays, there is no way that it can be intelligent enough to compensate for that. Especially not if you also consider things like feedback....

thx robert, but why wasnt my tecnique working, to record the outcome of the delay in a return and then apply the groove to that? Hm should work shouldn´t it? I´ll try again.

No, you are right. Re-recording and applying groove afterwards should work. I never tried it, I am allergic against warping ... Will check it out later...

ok I will be shameless and give you an advise: warping in the repitch mode causes usually no artifacts, so if its percussive material or some weird thing, it actually may ad interest and organical feeling when the groove makes the pitch shift.
