i'm talking about completely not just clear from the play list, there use to be a dialog box that asked how you wanted to delete the files but now i can't seem to find it.

why not just delete the playlist and then go to the directory where the files are and delete them from there?

per my signature peedrrooo, i'm on xp

i could delete stuff from the directory that its stored in but thats what i'm trying to avoid, i'm using itunes as a sample library and previewing samples and trying to delete the ones i dont want, itunes used to ask me
if i wanted to delete the files permanently or just from the playlist and i would chose the permanent option, that was nother version of itunes, now i've got the latest version and i just thought it was still possible to do this but i cant find it.

To make iTunes ask you about deleting the file from the hard drive (send to recycle bin), you need to be browsing the library, not a playlist. Make sure the source, selected in the left pane is on a library not a playlist.

If you're in a playlist press ALT-Backspace and you get the confirmation screen for trashing the file to the bin.
