Beat repeat... once I figured out it is not useless if you automate it.

I always reach for Sound Toys EchoBoy/Phase Mistress/Filter Freak; record small phrases from one of my hardware analog synths and then rerecord/resample post these FX.
Decades of fun. ;)

Overdrive on a 909 kick & the low pass filter on the 303.
I use alot more as my style is pretty minimal when it comes to notes & patterns, morphing the sound with phase shifting effects, delay, reverb, etc. Compressor is important to beef things up, but the top 2 are essential.

Exreme bit reduction (down to 4 bit) can also sound really nice on synths, though I usually add a litte (or alot of) distortion to get some warmth back into the sound.

For me overall, I'm getting into and loving reverb and short delay (like the classic 25ms right 50ms left)combos. short delay on the main signal panned slightly left, sent to a reverb which is then brought back and panned slightly right.
At the expense of sounding like a total noob, can you tell me how this is done? I'm thinking delay on the main track, and pan that to the left. Then have a reverb on a return, set the mix of the panned left track to 100, pan the return slightly right, and adjust to taste using the reverb dry/wet? Or would you adjust the amount of reverb using the main track's return mix knob instead?

i'm an old punk rock/metal kinda guy, so while i appreciate lots of effects, i'd be lost without a vast array of distortions.

A lot of the pre-made buffer effects in Plogue Bidule are tasty - lots of granular, stuttery action going on.
