I see the point that you are trying to make but there is no confusion in my rant.3dot... wrote:...I think you're confusing religion with fanaticism...glenn303 wrote:Further evidence why religion should just go away.3dot... wrote:In today's Iran Updates at niacINsight:
According to Tabnak, Mohsen Namjoo an Iranian artist and folk singer was sentenced to 5 years in prison for singing lyrics of the Koran in a modern popular style of Music.
Mohsen Namjoo is very popular in Iran and has made a few concerts around the world including in North American cities.
This is further evidence of the government’s ongoing effort to clamp down on artists and musicians.
Honestly if people want to believe in a religion then fine keep it to yourself and don't brainwash your kids either.
Better yet, make up your own religion (all the other religions where originally made up by someone) stop being lazy and worshiping someone Else's imaginary friend!

The text of the Quran is unchanged since it was written. Preserved in the exact word for word, dot to dot way it was first layed down. It doesn't lend itself to Hip-Hop style cuts and DJ remixes. The belief is simple: if you don't change it... it can't get fucked up. The bible hasn't been so "lucky"...the_planet wrote:I guess it's a pretty serious offense to muck around with Islam holy texts in that manner. In college, I took a class on the history of the middle east. For one of our group projects, we remixed a prayer call into a hip hop song and made a music video of us praying to go with it. Got an A on the project, but a Muslim girl in the class explained that it would be very bad fucking news if the wrong people were in the classroom when we played the video!
Homechick was right. You were playing with fire.

heh, go ahead and make a martyr of some (effectively) exiled Iranian satirist, anyone who knows you can see right through your politics. Your pontificating on laying one's life down for art or freedom is...well, grimly laughable when taking into account the plight of your neighbours the palestinians. It's funny to me that you need to ponder such poignant rhetorical questions here...when you as an israeli should know exactly what it is to suffer & die for freedom, considering how many palestinian civilians are in a hellish limbo of forced exile with no right-of-return...or dying on your doorstep in an open air prison/shooting gallery that they've been herded into by your government, contravening (more so than any other country) all international laws that israel claims to subscribe to. These people have done nothing more than being palestinian, where they've always been palestinian.3dot... wrote:b0unc3 wrote: Could be the shove that ends with a shovel.

I thought it his statements were ironic as well. But did I miss something? It wasn't israel who threw this guy in prision.
Re: Iranian musician Mohsen Namjoo sentenced to 5 years
He isn't IN prison.
He was sentenced in absentia, he lives in Vienna.
If he goes home, or gets extradited (unlikely) he'll do time.
And the irony in this thread, as you know, has more to do with the thread-starter's nationality than it does with the prison guard's. Irrespective of Namjoo's fate.
learn to read.

I'm not allowed to talk about anything at all...
because ...
you think so...
yeah... makes sense...
to be fair
I wasn't trying to start a political conversation...
but seems it turned that way
if I would've...there would be a far greater deeds being done...
that should be discussed...
yes...my government is responsible for some..
and most governments to a certain level...
the topic of the conversation is right up there in the title...
I didn't 'fool' you in to coming in this thread...to read up propaganda...
yes... Palestinians are in Limbo to say it softly
...I agree...
freedoms were taken that hadn't been returned...
but I hope we're getting there... and the wrongs could be righted peacefully...
and..I disagree with you insinuating that I agree with everything my government does...
or that I can maybe stop it at will...
there are limits to what I can do as a working class citizen...
(btw I didn't know the guy wasn't jailed...
and living in Vienna...means he was exiled...
only material that was on the news after I've read it in a blog...
searched it ..no news-site had anything about it at that time..
so I didn't have the details...)
Re: Iranian musician Mohsen Namjoo sentenced to 5 years
one thing I can say is.. in Israel we have freedom of speech
and the right to express ourselves...

You both make valid points. I found an article which may, or may not change your current viewpoints.

I challenge any forum regular who is familiar with your posts to agree with you on that.
You're tacit complicity comes from the fact you've never once started a thread about the ills of zionism, for all your wishy-washy peacenik bullshit this has never come up of your own accord. All you do is rail on the same people and states that Israel/America rail on.3dot... wrote: but seems it turned that way

Oh, right. Cool. So you propagate information you find on blogs without checking it out. Nice one.3dot... wrote: or that I can maybe stop it at will...

In this case it was http://niacblog.wordpress.com/about/ , an iranian-american lobby group. Awesome. Jeez, there's no chance they'd be biased. No sir-eee bob.

You also have nukes, and the guts of ten million dollars a day in american military aid.3dot... wrote:one thing I can say is.. in Israel we have freedom of speech

You also have an abysmal record with the UN, and you lock up your conscientious objectors.
Go Israel! Bastion of democracy!
[/sarcasm]
Ok, just kidding. Let's get back to hating on Iran shall we ?
Re: Iranian musician Mohsen Namjoo sentenced to 5 years
Religion is the the roadway to fanaticism. All the abrahamic religions suggest you go and convince everyone else that your delusion is in fact truth.3dot... wrote:...I think you're confusing religion with fanaticism...glenn303 wrote:Further evidence why religion should just go away.3dot... wrote:In today's Iran Updates at niacINsight:

does anyone here not read the news and need to get it from the forum? .
I try to. I prefer to get my news from mostly stoned or otherwise flaky musicians. It's usually more fun that way.

What would you do
If someone told you to fight for freedom?
Would you answer the call
Or run away like a little ?
'Cause the only reason that you're here
Is 'cause folks died for you in the past
So maybe now it's your turn
To die kicking some ass
