Hello everyone,
I haven't been on this forum for ages as i have moved back to the UK and still have my Studio in storage
Anyway i am thinking of getting a new Laptop for Audio and normal use with a core2duo processor, 3-4 GB DDR3 memory but only want to spend around 500 pounds. I can't seem to find one good enough for Audio with a Firewire port(I don't need a big screen). Any suggestions?
If not then i am thinking about getting a PCI-Express 1394 Firewire card for the Laptop. I am new to this PCI-Express business but i do remember the PCMCIA days where some cards had issues with Soundcards (My soundcard is a RME Fireface400 by the way) the only ones that seemed to be stable were Lacie and Texas is that the case with Laptop express cards. Does anyone know any good Express cards that work well with audio? and any suggestions of a good Laptop for Audio without Firewire for around 500 pounds. Thanks for your help.
Nick

Bump.... Please help me on this
Re: New Laptop (Firewire PCI expresscard ? )
Hello, I got the PCMCIA-version of this:
http://www.delock.de/produkte/gruppen/E ... anguage=EN
on my thinkpad after my fw-port died, my audiointerface is a fireface400
and it works great, so I think the PCI-Express-card should work well too, or even better.
But I wouldn´t buy an adapter-card with more than 2 firewire-ports built in because than you´ll
need an external power supply

Samsung do *very* nice laptops for the price, I got a q210 for about £570 a year ago (2Ghz C2D, 3Gig ram, 320gig 7200rpm hdd, vista home premium) and it's easily comparable to a much higher priced sony or asus, I'm really happy with it, although the tiny screen can be a bit of a pain if you don't have a nice external monitor!
the only problem with them is again complete lack of Firewire, and they get mucky *really* quick cus of the coating!

Some stuff, and some other stuff. Honest.
