FFS I do look at turntables as an instrument, do you know me? I have turntables (they're under the desk due to the APC and what I can do in Live, kinda sucks), I've taught myself to beat match and juggle records, I have Qbert and scratch videos, I've seen turntablists in concert and listen to their CDs. I respect the art form, I understand how this is not the same as full vinyl but I'm not so narrow sighted to understand what's going on.

i think he was agreeing with you in the same sense that i commented on this topic and that is that, this is a cool app for sure. But if dj's started using something like this in a live setting, where the equipment you rely on matters and the show you put on matters, why would you skimp out on a corny little app.

personally, when i play my concerts, i bring my biggest, loudest, brightest, flashiest, big toys lots of buttons equipment. Even if im playing in some dudes basement for 20 peple.
+1 on the whole guitar hero controller comment earlier!

I think if a went to a concert/club and saw a dj using a silly app in a professional setting i wouldnt be impressed (im a gear whore also though!). NOW if i was going to watch something like my fav 8bit artist hell i wana see what kinda stuff he comes up with out of his nintendo, etc etc.

like i said, cool app but almost zero practicality in a professional setting. I dont think i would have half as many paid dj gigs as i do now if i rolled up with an iphone

I put an edit on my last post. I would only take it so seriously, an amusement for hobbyists. could be interesting (for dicking around with) when the Serato collab comes out if that lets us scratch clips properly.

i wasn't hating on it... all i said was it had it's place in certain situations.. it's just my opinion. ok, maybe my analogy was whack, but you get the point.. Imagine a ipod battle.. I would walk out... anyways, you and i have probably attended the same shows.. I grew up on turntablism and your from the bay so you probably did also, so your no stranger to how big the bay area's influence is on the dj scene... I even met Q-bert while he was still in Livestyle Productions cuz DJ crews were alot tighter back then and threw parties alot.. you never know Tone.. you probably know someone who knows someone that knows me.. i'm the filipino guy w/ the shaved head and grew up in daly city.. i'm sure that narrows it down for ya..

You know something, that could actually be useful in some situations. You've got your apc, laptop and portable audio interface and you're playing out. You've got Ms.Pinky on a track in ableton. iphone output goes into your audio interface and lets you scratch while using the crossfader. For an ultra portable setup, it could actually be handy if you have Ms.Pinky. For those who know how to scratch, you know that much of the rhythm can be done just with the crossfader cuts with the speed/pitch of the sample giving color (if you're scratching noise type sounds). It would be pretty hard for percussive material with fast attacks, but you could have half decent scratch sounds thrown into your live sets with that. I'll have to keep my eye on that. Since I've already got an iphone I might even use the scratch thingy for shits 'n giggles some time...

for real, I know you!! we street raced on Lake Merced Blvd, nice try. the 650 Filipino community has always been good people, good community. total respect for how QBert, Yoga Frog and company cut out the white label secrecy and taught people their tricks.

oh, that and your dope-ass studio setup, very cool. I still gotta post one, I'm lazy like that.

I need to test this, but there's a free iPhone app out there called Touch the Wave, which allows you to load any WAV you want. So, if you load your control signal in it, you should in theory be able to do the same. I know MsPinky provides CD signals for you to download and burn. Must remember to investigate further.

The advantage of Ms. Pinky is that it's a plug-in and you load whatever audio file you want in the VST, so everything saves in the track itself, which is handy, rather than remembering what audio files you were scratching with each song.
