I've gotten very good at recording mixes and live sets in Ableton and now am starting to look into creating. However, I cannot find any instruments even though I have the EIC installed. The pic below is what my instrument rack looks like, empty. Where are these instruments referred to in Live 6's section 22.5.3? You can see in the pic that the instrument folder is expanded but every single folder has nothing in it.

I've read and re-read the instructions but just haven't had that ah-ha! moment yet. In Logic I can easily figure out where the instruments are and start laying stuff down. But I'm really stumped here, can't figure out where the keyboard is either to add notes! =(

Something is not setup correctly as you should have several presets under the Instrument Rack... You should double check that the EIC live packs are installed which can be done under preference/library.

ok,I found what you are referencing, it is Preferences/File Folder/Library Path. I redirected this to another folder that I believe contains everything and then lots of new stuff popped up. So now in the instrument rack I have lots of stuff, but still it doesn't seem to do anything. For instance, under the drum instrument there is only one called, "Tom Designer" and nothing really happens when I click on it. Shouldn't I see some kind of drum kit like in Logic? My expectation is to drag this into a MIDI track and then see some kind of keyboard or something....still waiting for that ah-ha moment. I've also noticed that the Brass stuff I installed from the EIC folder in Logic is now gone... grrr... not sure how to get this all synched up...

Ok, so this is where I'm at, I figured out how to play some instruments through my midi keyboard, I can see the Ableton piano now and can make adjustments to it.

So where are all the other drum kits? Also, when looking in my VST plug ins there is no drop down for anything under these folders.

I don't have Ableton in front of me but changing the library path most likely rebuild your library and therefore corrected any issues with the presets missing... Have you installed all of the EIC? Session Drums spans two DVDs and must be installed seperate from Live...

Your suggestion might be what I'm looking for. Do I need to manually install things from the CD's and if so, which ones. Is there like an auto install feature for these packs?

Did you buy EIC?

You should have two DVDs, one contains the multi-mic drums and the other contains the kits...the live packs on these two DVDs must be installed the same way you install other live packs (drag them onto an open Live session) As the last poster said, this is assuming you are licensed for the EIC.

I am licensed for EIC and have installed it with the key from the CD. However, I'm curious about what you said, that I have to 'drag a live pack and install onto an open live session'. And I do not see anything called multi-mic drums...

I don't understand this, why am I installing an item from the CD directly into the session? Why wouldn't this go into a folder?

Below are photos of the contents of both CD's that came with Live 6 and also the products section in preferences that shows I have EIC unlocked:

Yeah, just ghrab all thoase .alp files and drag and drop them over live, they will then install for you.

Like UKRuss said... take each ALP file on the EIC DVD and drag and drop on Live. Do this for each ALP (or you can select and drop multiple files at one time) and the EIC will be installed. You will then have all of the EIC presets and clips available. It will take some time and disk space so be patient.

So I dragged and dropped every .alp file from the CD's onto the Ableton App and it took a while to load everything. But I am still not seeing any of these instrument clips in Ableton or the multi-mic drums that chaster mentioned even if I search my whole computer. I've posted a pic of what the directory looks like in Ableton, the live packs installed and where all these files are on my mac.

How do I install these clips so I can see them in Ableton? Still at a loss here... are my directories all messed up? Am I missing a step somewhere?

Use the file icons marked 1,2, &3 to browse to the clips you want to use. The instrument section of the browser is for you to drag and load an instrument, not clips.

All looks good from the screen shots you posted there.

Not trying to be facetious, but follow the lessons from the help menu and read the manual. All will become clear.

something is goofy with your folders. look at the different paths you have for /lessons , /demo songs etc

also, dl every pack you can find from the ableton downloads site. install all those too
