Make the decay of the open hat match the groove, and don't eq the shit out of the top end.

heres my suggestions on a 5 second listen

a. dont pan them so hard, or pan something else... they're the only elements in the entire track that are panned.
b. vary them a bit more
c. put something on the offbeat

too much panning on the hats
the charakter of the hats is too different, try other hats
vary the pattern once in a while

No audio at work, so I can't listen to the tune....

but have you tried putting a sidechained AutoFilter on the hat track - sidechained to the kick or other percussion?

Velocity radomisation is your friend with all hi hat parts.

I like the track!

For me, my thing with percussion and HH's these days is layering. I usually layer 2 or 3 different HH's over top of each other and then give each their own effect. Can get you really nice crunchy sounding percussion that sits really well in a mix. To me, your HH's do sound a bit weak, try to fatten them up a bit (either with layering, efx or whatever is your personal touch).

One other tip if your using Live 8, don't forget about the vocoder for percussion. You'd be surprised the type of results you can get ;)

after a 5 second listen my first thought was the sample was just bad. try a better quality or different sounding open and closed hat sound. i'd go for something more real and less synth/drum machine.

i think those 2 sounds clash. the hat sounds ok but the other metal clang one doesn't fit IMHO. try just using the hat. might flow better. companies make matching cymbals kits because they usually sound good together. don't pan the hat.. but give it some stereo width. sometimes i'll put a slight doubling effect on my hats.

but what do i know? i've never finished a track and been completely satisfied with it!
