Computer keyboard lag and latency

Post by rachmanoff » Wed Aug 25, 2004 4:19 pm

Is anyone else experiencing significant lag and latency when using the computer keyboard for MIDI input? If so, are you able to combat the problem in any way?

I find it quite difficult to perform even simple musical tasks on the keyboard due to the latency and jitter.

Go into your preferences and change your buffer size so that you have lower latency when you play in via midi. If your computer is fast and you have a good amount of ram you can set this very low.

Absolutely. I can't use the qwerty at all to do even the simplest drum programming. Regardless of buffer setting. Seems to jam up with too much input even on a 4s hat part.

Same here on my PowerBook. BTW: On my system, the lag has nothing to do with audio latency. While playing my soft synths with an external MIDI keyboard, there is no audible lag. Only if I use the computer keyboard. I'm sure that the beta version of Live 4 doesn't show this behaviour :-(

Any ideas?

I haven't been able to play much with Live the last few months. When i just tried to use the computer keyboard, after an update to 4.04 recently, i was shocked at the response to my key pressings. It's now hardly usable and i'm SURE this problem wasn't in the beta versions. What happened?

I think this is a mac problem. Only some of you wrote your hw specs and version number, so I could be wrong :-P

Maybe a powerbook thing from the looks of it.
I have no lag on a g5 with wireless keyboard operated from 3 meters distance. I also tested a usb keyboard and it showed no evidence of any lag.

cheers
