Yeah, guy wasn't really a friend, did him a favour yadda yadda..........

Just be more careful next time. If there is a next time.

Also, no point in getting violent...........

He couldn't help it at the time. He might have laughed at the situation
but he was probably really embarrassed.

He is feeling really bad about it now (after the event, sobered up etc.),

If you see him again just gently remind him what a mess he was.

What's even wierder about this whole story, is that your posting about it on a music production software forum and asking for advice about your not so diplomatic behavior?!? And hey, I'm the last guy to be diplomatic about some bullshit. But the whole telling people how you bitch slapped a guy to people on the interwebz all over the world is just silly and fuckin wierd dude. Nobody cares how tuff you are on interwebz. Really.. no one..

And let me guess, your in your early to mid 20's. Eh??

It seems to me that the "but he was drunk...he didn't know what he was doing" argument is one of the oldest, truly piss-poor, illogical rhetorical arguments in the book. People have been trying to make excuses for morons for not just centuries, but literally millennia with this one. Read yer Greeks sometime.

He knew what the fuck he was doing when he drank about a half dozen too many, didn't he? If he'd been driving a car and plowed some biker into an early grave, the courts wouldn't forgive him because he was out of his mind drunk, would they?

Obviously we all overdo it once in a while, but when you do overdo it, it's all on you, b10tch.

I can't say I wouldn't do the same thing but I like to think I wouldn't.

Only you know if you overreacted. We can not know the situation. The fact that you ask makes me assume that you feel so guilty for overreacting that you might be asking faceless internet (of which aggressor, alpha-male mentality typically prevails) to help you justify what you already know to be inappropriate behavior.

Best of luck

It doesn't matter, the analogy stands. Getting slapped a couple of times isn't as harsh a punishment as going to jail for a couple decades for drunken-ass vehicular manslaughter, either...it is proportional.

Personally, fwiw, I most likely wouldn't have slapped the guy simply because it's not something I generally do, regardless of how much someone's pissed me off. I'd probably have given him an unforgettable tongue-lashing though, and the bathroom cleanup is certainly not an unreasonable demand.

I think you are both immature but at least you weren't a guest when you lost control.

Being drunk is never an excuse.
