uninstalling live 4 beta in OSX

Post by mech000999 » Fri Aug 27, 2004 2:14 am

any tips? i'm a relative n00b to X, so any hidden system files i should be looking for to delete?

also, when i installed the v4 beta, did it modify the ableton engine? so should i reinstall my 2.x version for full stability?

seems like my 2.x version is far less stable since i installed the beta 4.

hmmm, just did some checking around in the filesystem.

it appears that the Ableton Live Engine file is located in both
MacintoshHD/Library/Application Support/
and in MacintoshHD/Users/You/Library/Application Support/ . they are both aliases, but they also seem to only point to the latest release (do a Get Info/cmd-I on the file). OSX keeps different preference files (MacintoshHD/Users/You/Library/Preferences/Ableton/) and application support files (MacintoshHD/Users/You/Library/Application Support/Ableton/ and MacintoshHD/Library/Application Support/Ableton/) for each version you've ever installed, however.

my advice would be to delete the aliases to Live Engine that try to point to version 4.xxbeta . then start version 2.xx again and it should force the program to make a new association and hopefully re-create the Live Engine aliases properly.

hope that helps

thanks!

i did some looking around in the same directories you mentioned, and indeed i deleted all of the 4.xx files - and you definitely confirmed the alias issues i was wondering about. looks like the 2.xx goods are still in place, i just have to make sure the aliases are not trying to find the 4.xx engine.

thanks again...
