Will Live 8 work on Snow Leopard?

I am kinda new to Macs. I have a first generation MacBook Pro, and it is still running Tiger. When I heard of Snow Leopard, I figured I'd finally catch up with the times. The guy @ Apple said I would be best to buy Snow Leopard and do a fresh install. I am curious whether the most current version of Live will work straight from the download, or will Ableton need to make a compatible version part of one of their updates (like the whole Intel Mac changeover)? I also use Spectrasonics and NI instruments. Would they work the same way? Sorry if this is an annoying newb question. Thanks for your help!
