Nathan Fake's Producer Masterclass Video in CM

Post by UKRuss » Tue Aug 11, 2009 9:40 am

I found him a leeetle pretentious but damn is it humbling to see his ill equipped studio, cheap mikes and thigns and yet he still churns out the commecially succesful chowns.

A lesson to us all.

yes, I saw this too - an old PC running Cubase vst 5 (using the bundled A1 synth as his vsti of choice), as well as a beat up old analogue synth, plus a salt shaker and some finger clicks for percussion, nice

I've been watching a few of the older CM Producer Masterclass vids on youtube as well. Theres a great one on Mistabishi there in his pokey little room, he too looks like he could do with a decent hot meal inside him and a trip to Top Shop

People knock Cubase's built in synths, but A1 was an awesome synth (it's no longer included in C5) - it was developed by Waldorf and had quite a bit of a PPG Wave type sound (albeit with fewer parameters). They included it until SX3.

Cubase's newer synths introduced in C4 are not that bad either. Although I tend to use 3rd party synths, the built in ones are better than freeware and apart from Sculpture and EXS24 (Halion One in Cubase is a sample playback only, with some tweakable parameters but not as deep - nevertheless, some good sounds are in the library for it) , stack up well to Logic's synths.

Yes, I think he mentions it was an old version 3 synth part he recorded into cool edit and used years later ion the track he demos.

I don't see that at all, seems like he's just going through the track one piece at a time and telling you what he did in a "not much to say about that" kind of what.

Take it from me, he's a London hipster. Pretention is a prerequisite.

Still like his chowns a plenty. Outhouse is a classic.

hipster maybe, but pretentious he doesn't seem to me. The 2 are not synonymous.

he rather inspired me to do stuff like I used to, I used to do a lot of cool edit work similar to how he does it. most of my samples started in fruityloops and then got all tweaked out in cool edit. I was honestly better back then than I am now :)
