Which trigger pad?
Which trigger pad?
Ok, so I've got an SL 25, an APC 40, and a Behringer FBC1010, but am seriously lacking any type of drum pad w/ any real use, so I'm coming to the experts to help me w/ my decision.
First is the MPD18
http://keyboards-midi.musiciansfriend.c ... sku=620023
Seems like a decent controller for what I need, has a good price and I've used the MPD25 before so the learning curve is small. Negatives are the small pads unusable w/ drum sticks.
Next is the MPD24
http://keyboards-midi.musiciansfriend.c ... sku=700812
Slightly more expensive, but with assignable knobs (not sure how much I'd use these TBH). Same small pads.
Next is the Alesis Control Pad
http://drums-percussion.musiciansfriend ... sku=449753
Very bare bones pad controller, but can easily use drum sticks with it. I'm worried about quality though.
Korg Nano Pad
http://keyboards-midi.musiciansfriend.c ... sku=580361
Another bare bones product. Seems a little small for what I want, but the price is right at $60.
Lastly is the M Audio Trigger Finger
http://keyboards-midi.musiciansfriend.c ... 03614#used
Good price, not too many knobs, but small trigger areas again.
So, out of these choices which would you choose. If you have one, tell me why you like or dislike it.

Re: Which trigger pad?
you gotta try each out
people like different ones and their opinions aren't worth shit to you and your fingers
i like the trigger finger for the stiff pads, but people dislike it for the stiff pads
so try them out!!

Re: Which trigger pad?
Thanks, I've been reading reviews on Harmony which isn't really helping things. I'm definitely more inclined to walk away w/ one of the Akai models after though. That MPD18 looks to be perfect for my use and is the right price.hurlingdervish wrote:you gotta try each out

I'm going to guitar center in a little bit and will try out some of these.
Thanks again.

Re: Which trigger pad?
i've got the Korg padKontrol and it works great... never had an issue with it and most people would tell you the same. i've heard the MPD24 has had problems. the Alesis unit... eh?!? i don't think i'd go that route. there seems to be an overwhelming hatred toward m-audio products as well on this forum. but hey, the guy from linkin park uses a shitload of those trigger fingers on stage so maybe they're not too bad...

Re: Which trigger pad?
haha what a show boat
he could have made 8 presets
the trigger finger's pads are very sturdy, its the only one i didnt feel like i was going to break when banging on them
the knobs arent as sturdy but they are still nice

Re: Which trigger pad?
I love my tigger finger..zero problems so far..decent price as well.
Pads are a bit small..but responsive
Knobs are accesible..sturdy and not endless rotary..faders are solid..good resistance
usb powered, easy to read and navigate led
one touch velocity lock..
hope this helped.

I love my nanopad. Really really great product!
And here in Norway you can get three nanopads and a pizza for the price of a padcontrol

Re: Which trigger pad?
Well, I went and tried a few out and I think I'm going with the MPD18.
Price is pretty much #1. At $99 it is the 2nd cheapest pad, the next being $50 more and it looks pretty sturdy for that price.
I also like that it doesn't have any knobs. I have plenty of flexibility w/ my APC40 in that department so more money for some knobs that I'm never going to use seems pointless.
So, I'm off to order that, a new mic and a new guitar pedal for $225... Now all I need is a decent PC and I can really focus on my stage act.

Re: Which trigger pad?
It looks like he's using 2 at a time? So 8 presets wouldn't really help because he couldn't control those 2 param's at once.hurlingdervish wrote:he could have made 8 presets
but ya it's totally overkill.

it only LOOKS like he's using 2 at a time
but then fine, he could have 2 trigger fingers with 4 presets on each
