It's not as quiet as an iBook or powerbook, but not as loud as a powermac. The noise doesn't bother me much, because I have fairy dirty production tastes. :)

It runs pretty warm as well.

I love it though!

1) 54% steady
2) Fujitsu Siemens A7640 notebook
3) Windows XP pro with SP1
4) Sempron 3000+ 1,8ghz
5) 512mb ram 333mhz
6) Stock soundcard (vinyl ac97)
7) 4200rpm

Now .. this all runs very well .. except I do have a slight issue with the rather high CPU percentage. I have optimized my laptop to the best of my knowledge and I havent got a problem how live 4 runs on this usually ..
but I have to compare here..

this test song has:
2 synths.
13 effects.

now ... I use sonar 4 as my main sequencer on my laptop and one of my songs has the following setup.

2 synths (dr 008 with 4 outputs, synth 1)
13 wave tracks
30 vst effects

and this takes 79% of my CPU.

now I know that you cant compare 2 separate software with simple things like this .. and it really makes no difference to me at all ... I just think that the test song is rather heavy for what it actually does.

Make sure your Power Options are using the maximum settings. Somelike 'Always on' Never use power consuming options, only use full power.

I am sure you will get better performace because of this. This is PC man ;)

Here are 2 laptops I tested:

1) 23-26%
2) Sony Vaio S260 laptop
3) Win XP Home
4) Pentium M 1.7gHz
5) 512MB Ram
6) Stock

I just did another test for the hard drives of these 2 laptops by loading up as many audio tracks as each one could hold in Ableton Live. Here is what I found....

1) Sony
-can play about 22 audio tracks before hd drop outs occur (cpu reads 6% at this point)
-has a 4200rpm, 8mb buffer hard drive
-can view 8 full size audio tracks without scrolling

2) HP
-can play about 39 audio tracks before the hd drop outs occur (cpu reads 13% at this point)
-has a 5400rpm, 16mb buffer hard drive
-can view 11 full size audio tracks at a time without scrolling
