Amount of time to install 8.0.5

Post by chasting » Tue Sep 15, 2009 4:57 am

I have Live 8 suite with the EIC and session drums installed in the library. The live 8 libary update that is applied as part of 8.0.5 is taking literaly hours to complete. Is anyone else experiencing similar results?

Thanks,
Curt

took at least an hour for me on both a dual core, and quad core pc..

i don't have the suite either..

started installing on a laptop at 11:30, and finished close to 12:40 (not sure as i wasn't sitting around to wait)
experienced similar times on my quad core desktop pc as well.. maybe a touch quicker.

kinda sucked finally get a 'release' instead of a beta only to wait an hour for it to install..

did you have any betas installed and/or the suite instruments & library from the beta when you installed 8.0.5?

i still had 8.0.5b12 installed with all the extra suite stuff when i started the 8.0.5 install. i don't know if that would have anything to do with the length of time but it's the only thing i can think of that would have taken so long. all the past few betas installed much quicker in comparison other than the initial beta with all the suite stuff..

I had a problem installing but after a couple of minutes I realised there was another instance of Live running and it seemed to be causing a problem with the set-up. After this it took no time at all, around 10 minutes.

really?

it took ages in my case as well, also before 8.0.5.... that was one of the reasons to not download betas anymore... the downloading and installing of the suite takes so long that live betas nearly expire in the meantime and you start from the beginning again... OK, just pulling a leg here... but it takes way to long... something does not feel right.

however, i just completed the install after downloading yesterday the whole night...

let's see how it performs now.

hope the next need of a fix is looong, looong away. and they do rather important additions to stay LIVE in the meantime... like some missing key / midi mapping possibilities, a midi and soundcard automatic recognition when plugged in after a disconnection a la Traktor without the need of a restart, etc.

just all the stuff that is useful for using it LIVE and on the road instead of more studio type DAW nonsense...

Same thing here but worse. I have a 2.16 duo core with 4gb of ram running windows 7 and its taking for bloody ever. I ran for about 2 hours and was about 50% done. Then i let it run over night and when I checked in the morning the whole thing had crashed and I could not ever start up live.

This is pure bullshit, to even install the live packs it took for ever. To get EIC2 and all the drum samples it took hours, at least 5. When I had my mac (before it got jacked) this process took like an hour at most.

Its not my computer, it cant be. It has to do with how ableton runs in windows and now I see it is a joke!

We get the point, it works well on MAC. Stop replying with how quick it works on your MAC. Clearly, this is a Windows problem only.

Not you specifically, I mean all MAC people in general.

noop, took ages, about 30-40 minutes here on a MBP 2.16ghz OSX 10.5.8 for the suite... i think it's too long...???

by the way that was without the suite content.

Easily over 4 hours for me. I did not install any betas, mainly because I don't have the time to do any testing. I kept it at 8.04. The download for 8.05 took almost an hour. Then the install and library update took another 4-6 hours.

This is getting out of hand. Now, the bare minimum requirement for Live INCLUDES a high-bandwidth internet connection. There needs to be a better solution.
