Orchestral Instrument Collection vs East West Symphonic Orch

Post by JBlongz » Tue Sep 15, 2009 2:36 pm

Does anyone own the Orchestral Instrument Collection? I have the East West Symphonic Orchestra Bundle. Wanted to know how they compare?

I have EWQLSO, and I think that's good enough to not buy the Orchestral Collection. Live's samples are too much money, and editing within the racks can get to be a PITA. The sound good, but so does East West. For me, buying EW was about $275, and I'm happy with my strings.

i own east west silver and have only heard samples of oic. east west sounds much more real and articulate than oic so i'd stick with them.

[Edited for specificity:]

Can you folks comment on how those two (OIC and EWSO) compare to Sampletank and Kontakt? I took advantage of deals on both of those this year. I am wondering what instruments might be the strongest in ST and Kontak vs the other two.

^ I can only answer that question by also debating Macs vs. PCs. There's really no way to separate these issues.

it's a shame that there's no proper demo of the OIC... since it's put together by sonivox you'd think it'd be pretty decent, since their orchestral stuff has a very good rep...

Neb, I have edited my question as I meant to ask about which instruments in particular are best (I am using both PC and Mac btw).

haha, I'm sorry, I was being a smartass - PC vs. Mac makes no difference.

If I had to choose between Kontakt and Sampletank, I'd choose Kontakt. I feel it's more versatile and more powerful, and the libraries are outstanding. The East West Symphonic samples run off the Kontakt engine, so that's where I'd place my bets.

i don't know about sample tank so that's out. after hearing samples of kontakt and opinions of a friend who has kontakt and east west symphonic silver, he agrees with me that east west is superior to the default kontakt orchestral samples.

i'm reasonably convinced that no one has actually bought the OIC...in fact i'm not even sure if it actually exists beyond a price tag and a couple pages on ableton.com.

That had occurred to me.

The mind blowing sample sets come from VSL libraries though. At least the demos I've heard are crazy good. Also, they have host software that allows you to stream over LAN cross platform their orchestral libraries! http://vsl.co.at/en/211/1343/1347/336.vsl

The next update to this promises to allow VST and AU hosting too! 8O
The software alone is listed in their shop as 95 euros!

I definitely will be if I ever do purchase more orchestral libraries outside of Kontakt, getting in on this! 8O Also this will be a must have for those of us with a laptop and desktop.
