No sound with asio drivers..with ableton 8 and vista.

My asio drivers show that everythings a go, my interface is turned off and replaced with them....it shows sound is coming in but there is no sound coming out! please help!

prob with this for a while, not sure exactly how i fixed it (asio4all wrapper BTW). try this.


Make sure no windows sounds.
disable application exclusive control
mess with settings and restart, restart restart.
try and disable MS wavetable synth, though im not sure how or if mine even is disabled.


I found that the I usually have to run ableton right after startup for it to work, sometimes if ive been listening to youtube or soundcloud and then try ableton has no output.

I suspect this is not the type of answer you're after, but if it's at all possible you should (IMO) get rid of Vista; either downgrade to Windows XP or try out Windows 7. My experience is that Vista and pro audio are a poor match.

Vista can run just fine for audio - it cannot run at quite as low a latency typically as win XP, but with reasonable drivers and one or two tweaks can run well and it handles memory better than XP, so you may find this a benefit when mixing as you can typically add more plugs or tracks. Vista does require at least 3GB memory to work well with audio, so if you have less, this should be addressed. Windows 7 uses most of the same drivers as Vista. For some products, it is going to need a bedding in period, as XP and Vista before running optimally.

More details required. Computer specs. Audio interface type.

You are probably overlooking something simple, which can be fixed with a simple tweak.

Have you tried reinstalling the drivers, or making sure you have the most up to date ones. Are your cables (firewire or USB I don't know which as you haven't specified your interface type), working ?

i had it running perfectly with live 7 then as soon as i uploaded the new 8 today no sound will come through.....i uploaded it to my buddies desktop with xp and it worked just fine...

what SOUNDCARD are you using ???

You're missing something really obvious, some little option in a control panel, or Live's audio preferences or you need to reinstall the Vista drivers.
