Novation should make like a behringer BCR2000 controller too, and name it CONTRLPAD or whatever. that would really rock. 8 faders up and 12 endless rotary knobs like the apc. can someone photoshop one? LOL ...damnn I can wait to see it with the new HP envy!!! good job Novation!!

It's just an array of buttons. I'm tired of all these cheap plastic controllers coming out every 3 months. Why not use an oxygen8 keyboard (with velocity) to trigger clips. This is an industry like any other that likes to make you think that you need this shit to put on a more entertaining show. The truth is at most shows people don't care if you are triggering clips with assigned keys on your laptop or a plastic light array in the form of this or the APC. Sorry to be harsh but I just think these controllers are beginning to become nauseating. In reality there is so much you can do without a midi controller just using key assignments. Once you add modifiers like shift and alt the sky is the limit! Just as responsive and all the feedback you need is right in front of the screen. If you're playing in a DJ booth nobody can see what you are doing anyway. I don't want to hear the argument that watching a guy with a laptop is not entertaining. I say it is no more entertaining than watching a guy push buttons on a monome or apc.

But it has flashing multi-colored lights

Yeah, I was thinking the same thing: Nocturn + Launchpad = gold!

Of Course, for me the brandnew Nocturn 25 Keyboard and the Launchpad will be an excellent Combination !

I am verry lucky that i am waiting to buy the APC 40 !!!

For me today its Christmas !

Thank you Ableton ! The Guys from Novation have made an Stepsequencer Patch for the Launchpad in Max4Live !!!

So i can create a lot of cool Basslines with the Analog and Operator.....

I'll admit it's cute. I just don't have the need for this type of thing personally. I want to see more expressive controllers with aftertouch, tilt controls, and velocity sensitivity. This controller offers nothing more than pretty lights and functions my computer keyboard can easily serve.

Ever think that people just like these controllers for their own pleasure, and not to entertain crowds with the lightshow?

I love my APC40. Not because it's pretty and partygoers will be drawn to my "performance" cause there's a lot of multi-colored buttons. It's all for myself. I love the dedicated aspect. I love the visual feedback. So what if it's just an array of backlit buttons? It's a lot more fun to play than a QWERTY keyboard. And i don't know about you, but when I'm having fun with my set... it usually translates to the crowd

Anyways... I think the launchpad looks SWEET! Even having my APC40, I would love to get my hands on this thing eventually.

Mainly because they have no lights, therefore can't represent the state of your clip slots (empty, clip present, clip playing, clip recording) and you can't navigate and select which area of the session you want to control.

I can respect that. I just don't like when I hear people say that these controllers make for a more entertaining show. They sure aren't that expressive imo. However, if the controller inspires you I say go for it!

I have a question!!!!

This is an absolute deal breaker for me!

I was *massively* dissapointed to find out the novations automap 3 pro software cannot automap to native live devices. However, this new launchpad thing comes with automap and says that it controls lives devices - - - does this mean that we will finally be able to use automap on native live devices???

Tho I'm going to use my Nocturn with this as I won't need all those faders for my set up!

i agree, except on the lights, i think you should have the option to switch them off!

a bloody guitar or piano or drums or a trumpet does not have lights either, and yet people can play them very well, if you can't trigger your damn clips without a disco show, i really think you should leave it altogether. (but maybe i am the only one who considers Live being an instrument?)

if the APC 40 could just switch off the disco show and you could then have the possibility to run that damn thing via USB bus power, that would be gold in my eyes. and for the ones who need the disco, very well, they can switch it on and use the PSU.
